The 2024 CinemaCon is in full force on the Las Vegas strip and The Weekly Intel recap is all over it and with it comes a barrage of action cinema related goodness to wet your collective pallets with. Lionsgate really brought their A game (for action that is) to this year’s CinemaCon so the studio is really looking to amp it up. From Henry Cavill showing up and teasing Highlander from John Wick helmer Chad Stahelski to Dave Bautista playing a Killer’s Game with a host of action icons, this Weekly Intel Recap is jocked up and ready to roll so let’s do this!
Henry Cavill Teases HIGHLANDER from Action Maestro Chad Stahelski!

It’s no secret that cameras are far from rolling on the new Highlander remake from John Wick master Chad Stahelski, but it is definitely on all of our most wanted lists for future action films. The film’s star Henry Cavill was on hand to pump up his two Guy Ritchie directed offerings in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and In the Grey, but Cavill took some time to tease fans about what he’s going to bring to the table playing the most famous immortal of all.
“If you thought you’d seen me do sword work before, you haven’t seen anything yet”
That statement was in reference to Cavill’s already awesome display of swordsmanship in Netflix’s hit series The Witcher. Cavill definitely demonstrated some ferocious skills in his time on that show but it looks like Stahelski, and he are planning something truly special when it comes to the action set pieces for Highlander.
“I’m a lover of the original movies, for better or for worse, and it’s one of those things where when I was reading the script for the first time, I wasn’t quite too sure where they were going to go with it.” The first few movies “touched on the lore… but my goodness me oh my, we are going deep into these characters,” Cavill elaborated on the new film and how it will up the carnage from the original host of films.
We have a long wait for Cavill’s turn as Highlander, but something tells me that with him in front of the camera and Stahelski behind it, we are truly going to love this remake. Stay tuned… Source: Deadline
Dave Bautista Plays a The Killer’s Game with Action Director J.J. Perry!

Another forthcoming assault on action cinema stars the one and only Dave Bautista and is directed by veteran action director and stunt pro J.J. “Loco” Perry (Day Shift). The film in question is the action-comedy The Killer’s Game and it features Bautista as Joe Flood, “a veteran assassin (Bautista), who is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness and authorizes a hit on himself to avoid the pain that is destined to follow. But soon after, he finds out that he was misdiagnosed— and must fend off an army of former colleagues trying to kill him.“
The MCU’s Pom Klementieff stars as the woman who executes the contact to take out Bautista as he is the one who killed her father. To make sure the job gets done, she rallies all the top tier assassins of Europe to eliminate Flood with extreme prejudice.
A trailer was shown at CinemaCon and word is that this is going to be a hyper-violent R-rated actioner which just may be Bautista’s John Wick. The assassins sent in to try and take Bautista’s character out is a squadron of action film icons including Scott Adkins, Marko Zaror, and Daniel Bernhardt so adrenaline junkies of cinema like me will have much cause for celebration when this one hits. Throw in a stellar supporting cast that includes Terry Crews, Sofia Boutella, and Ben Kingsley and this one has blood red gold written all over it. Source: JoBlo
Mark Wahlberg is a FLIGHT RISK from Director Mel Gibson!

Mel Gibson is a no holds barred actor and filmmaker when it comes to action and now, he has Mark Wahlberg as his newest adrenaline laced muse in the new actioner Flight Risk. A new trailer was also unveiled yesterday during the Lionsgate panel and according to JoBlo, Flight Risk looks ” commercial. Michelle Dockery is a US Marshal flying a witness (Topher Grace) to testify against the mob, but the pilot of the plane is a psychopathic hit man played by Mark Wahlberg playing WAY against type. He even shaved his head to look like he has a bald pate. Looks like a really tight kickass thriller, and Gibson REALLY makes Walhberg look crazy in this. Scored by a cover of Talking Heads’ ‘Psycho Killer.’“
Wahlberg looking crazy with a shaved head and going full on psycho villain? Yes please. With Gibson helming this one, expect a very hard-edged thriller with some unflinching set pieces to fill the running time. Wahlberg hasn’t really played the antagonist since 1996’s Fear so I’m all in with this one!
Director Joe Carnahan Unleashes the SHADOW FORCE!

It’s been a long while since we’ve seen anything from filmmaker Joe Carnahan. The force behind some bad ass action flicks as Smokin’ Aces, Copshop, The A-Team and Boss Level is back in full effect with the action-thriller Shadow Force (love that name BTW). Carnahan is an understated action director and this one sounds like a lot of fun with Kerry Washington and Omar Sy starring as “an estranged couple with a bounty on their heads who must go on the run with their son to avoid their former employer, a shadow ops unit sent to kill them.”
According to JoBlo, this one is another rousing looking action pic in the style of John Wick so I’m curious to see some first look footage from it.
