Santa’s back and he’s on the naughty list but all is good as he’s the man with the bag and a plan! David Harbour returns as the most lethal and kick ass Santa Claus ever with Violent Night 2 and he’s brought Kristen Bell as Mr.’s Claus too for all the bloody, bullet blasting joy to the world! Once again, this one is being unleashed by 87North which is David Leitch’s blockbuster production banner. Leitch’s company is responsible for high-octane action hits like Bullet Train, The Fall Guy, Atomic Blonde and the Nobody franchise to name a few. The first film’s action director Tommy Wirkola is also back, and this sequel looks to ramp up the yuletide carnage and festive bloodshed that the first one heralded. In 2022’s bare-knuckle holiday sensation, Violent Night, an embittered Santa, armed with lethal combat skills, took out a team of mercenaries to rescue a girl and her family. Now, not-so-jolly Saint Nick suits up again to take on a ruthless gangster (Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Jared Harris) terrorizing the merchants of the Silver Bell Mall.
But when Santa forgets the true meaning of Christmas, he finds himself in the heart of a lively mall community in desperate need of his help. Sapped of his magic, he’ll need another way to take on the goons threatening the mall, and time is running out. Santa has to rediscover his faith in goodness and call in some last-minute reinforcements from the one person no baddie wants to tangle with: Mrs. Claus (Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Kristen Bell).
Along with David Harbour, Jared Harris and Kristen Bell, the dynamic cast includes Emmy winning screen legend Joe Pantoliano (The Last of Us, The Sopranos), Daniela Melchior (Fast X, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), Andrew Bachelor (Greenland, The Walking Dead), and AEW professional wrestler Maxwell Friedman (The Iron Claw, Happy Gilmore 2).
TRAILER TACTCIAL REACTION: The first Violent Night was a crowd pleasing, body dropping chef’s kiss with David Harbour turning Old St. Nick into a bona fide action hero that The Punisher would blush at. The sequel assembles more of the same which is just fine and we even get the Die Hard trope with Harbour’s Santa fending off mercenaries in a mall. Yes, it’s been done to death, but when it’s done with such lethal and brutal precision by those who are responsible for John Wick, then I’ll take it every day and twice on Sunday.
The action looks insane and bombastic with enough gnarly kills to satisfy and mixing in dark humor with all the carnage is always a slam dunk. Adding the beautiful and extremely talented Kristen Bell as Mrs. Clause is genius and I cannot wait to celebrate the holidays with bodies dropping.
The sequel looks bigger and badder and Harbour is always all in for something even as chaotic and politically incorrect as this. Blood, bullets, fisticuffs and gingerbread cookies. LFG!!!
