Say what you will about Paramount Pictures and their headstrong determination in acquiring fellow movie company Warner Bros but the prolific movie house still has big plans in store for some of their biggest IPs.
During their panel at CinemaCon in Las Vegas yesterday, Paramount came in guns blazing with some hefty news over future development over franchises like Transformers, Top Gun, G.I. Joe and the ambitious Call of Duty video game live adaptation. Paramount has made waves with their announcements in the past but still have little to show of any of it so we will see how this all plays out when the dust finally settles with their battle to acquire Warner Bros.
Paramount head honchos Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein took the stage yesterday and confirmed that development is underway on such properties as Star Trek, G.I. Joe, Transformers, World War Z, Sonic the Hedgehog, Paranormal Activity, Possession, Longlegs, and Jackass. The biggest news, of course, is that Top Gun 3 is officially being developed with megastar Tom Cruise returning once again. If you ask me, I thought the second film wrapped up Cruise’s arc perfectly and it will be hard to top the blockbuster second film which pretty much rejuvenated the box office business after the pandemic.
Along with all this, Paramount unveiled the official logo for the upcoming Call of Duty film which showed off a sizzle trailer of video game footage while the song Seven Nation Army rocked in the background. Peter Berg, who has been tapped to write and direct, made an appearance via video and confirmed that he and Taylor Sheridan are “both very attached to the special operations community,” while promising a true adaptation of realism and epic scope. Along with directing, Berg is also co-writing the film with Sheridan.
“Taylor and I are both deeply connected to the special ops community,” Berg said in a video message to the annual convention of movie theater owners, Berg stated per Variety. The Deepwater Horizon director also stated that he and Sheridan are “prioritizing authenticity among the group of elite soldiers on a human level but also bring amazing scale.”
The studio also has a release date in store which will be June 30th, 2028. A logo was also unveiled, and you can check it out below!

In regard to Top Gun, a third installment is in development as “the studio confirmed a script is being written during its CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas. Tom Cruise is expected to reprise his role of Pete Mitchell and producer Jerry Bruckheimer is also returning,” per Deadline. Ehren Kruger is also said to be returning to write the script.
As a fan of G.I. Joe, I’m not holding my breath in terms of another movie. Much has been said about the property after it was announced that Paramount enlisted maligned filmmaker Max Landis to write a treatment for a new film along with actor/filmmaker Danny McBride also doing the same. Paramount then nixed Landis’ bold take on the franchise a few days later. Nothing else has been said about McBride’s take on it so we are still in a holding pattern on it but with the studio still mentioning the Hasbro IP, there is still some glimmer of hope that a new take on Yo Joe will inevitably arrive someday.
