Action icon Scott Adkins is currently taking on fellow action phenom Marko Zaror in the new martial arts action-thriller Diablo which hit streaming services and select cinemas last Friday. With that film satisfying the itch for hardcore action film fans, we are already looking to the future and Adkins’ next project to hit in the form of the WWII action pic Prisoner of War. Formerly known as Death March, Adkins stars as a POW forced to fight for his life in a Japanese war camp in a series of Bloodsport style matches and Well Go USA is set to release the film this coming September.
Adkins shared on his official social media, a brand-new image from the movie which highlights a brutal fight between his character of James Wright and a ruthless Japanese soldier named Hirano played by Shane Kosugi. If anything, the new image previews the brutal fight action that awaits fans upon the film’s release. Check it out below!

Along with the picture, Adkins simply stated on the post, “Prisoner of War – this September.”
Louis Mandylor, an action star in his own right and Adkins’ co-star in The Debt Collector films directed Prisoner of War. Mandylor has been crushing it as of late behind the camera with other directorial efforts including the werewolf combat film Operation Blood Hunt and 3 Days in Malay. Both of those films are also set during WWII. Mandylor has taken his legit credentials as one of the most prominent stars in indie action and has parlayed that into a blossoming career as a filmmaker directing action movies with brutal and gritty adrenaline laced sequences mixed with emotional human drama.
The official plot for Prisoner of War, formally known as Death March, reads: A British airman washes ashore after being ejected from his plane and becomes a prisoner in a Japanese-run POW camp. While waiting to join the infamous Bataan death march, the airman is tortured by the camp commander and is forced to fight for his life against an array of skilled Japanese warriors. Adkins portrays the airman. Veteran actor Peter Shinkoda (I, Robot, Daredevil) plays the camp commander. (Per Deadline)
The film boasts a sensational international ensemble cast including Michael Copon (As Good as Dead, Power Rangers: Time Force), Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (3 Days in Malay, The Equalizer 2), Michael Rene Walton (Reptile), Gary Cairns (The Channel, Justified), Action icon Sho Kosugi’s son Shane Kosugi (Nine Deaths of the Ninja), Masanori Mimoto (Baby Assassins, Hydra) and Gabbi Garcia (Unbreak My Heart).
Besides being a full throttle blood and knuckles action pic, Death March is also based on the true story of “the most notorious in WWII history, a forced march of some 60,000 Filipino and 15,000 U.S. prisoners of war following the Japanese victory at the Battle of Bataan. It has been reported that 20,000 men died during the 65-mile trek to Camp O’Donnell and thousands more died on arrival at their destination.” This means that there will be a lot of heavy-handed drama to accompany the bone breaking action sequences to immerse the audience in a true war film experience. Action films these days are trying to bring high octane action that means something and involves characters that viewers will become invested in, and this film sounds like it will fit perfectly in with that agenda.
Aside from this movie and the recently released Diablo, Adkins will headline the new action-thriller Breaking Cover reteaming him with his Legacy of Lies Director Adrian Bol. Add One Last Fight from director Isaac Florentine and co-starring Djimon Hounsou as well as Skyline: Warpath from filmmaker Liam O’Donnell which reunites him with his Triple Threat co-star Iko Uwais, and the crime-thriller Reckless. Adkins will also be seen playing Ben Affleck’s brother in the star-studded crime thriller The RIP which also stars Matt Damon, Steven Yuen, Kyle Chandler and Sasha Calle who was Supergirl in The Flash.
