Power Rangers alum and martial arts action star Jason David Frank’s life may have ended way too soon but his legacy will always live on through his work as well as his interactions with a rabid fan base. Frank was the real deal when it came to onscreen fighting prowess and cinema machismo and while his next and final project may be his swan song, but it will be a legacy worthy finale that will ecompass all that he was and could have been.
Well Go USA has officially unleashed the trailer for Legend of the White Dragon which hails from the awesome peeps at Bat in the Sun and with it, fans are treated with seeing Frank one last time and witnessing a sci-fi, action martial arts combat epic that will undoubtedly solidify Frank’s legacy in the genre while releasing a jaw dropping movie event that needs to be seen on the big screen. Jason David Frank is the White Dragon. Forced to hide in the shadows, fugitive hero Erik Reed must clear his name to reunite with his family. Standing in his way is a mysterious villain obsessed with destroying the White Dragon for good.
Bat in the Sun’s Aaron Schoenke & Sean Schoenke, best known for their awesome Super Power Beatdown videos, helm the movie with a supporting cast that includes Aaron Schoenke himself, Jason Faunt, Rachele Brooke Smith, the late, great Michael Madsen, Andrew Bachelor, with David Ramsey and martial arts icon Mark Dacascos. The film is also said to be an unofficial follow up to The Power Rangers lore. It is evident from the footage that the film looks tom also honor that franchise as well as Frank’s legacy.
TRAILER TACTICAL REACTION: Legend of the White Dragon takes its cues from the Power Rangers, The Guyver and more while forging its own destiny at the same time. While it is bittersweet to see Frank in his last performance, it’s also a celebration of his life and career that has touched countless lives. The trailer emotes the desired reaction from genre enthusiasts as it showcases its sci-fi aesthetic while deploying insane martial arts action sequences that combine both jaw dropping stunt work and action design with blockbuster worthy visuals. Who knows where Frank’s career would have taken off too after the release, but Legend of the White Dragon looks like a bone smashing good time emulating an old school blockbuster video era vibe that is certainly welcome. It also serves as a reminder that legends never die, and Frank’s legacy will indeed live on.
Legend of the White Dragon will hit theaters on August 28th. On that day Regal Cinemas will feature a fan event celebrating Power Rangers Day where fans in attendance will be treated to a special introduction by Jenna Rae Frank while also receiving an exclusive print.
