I don’t know if any of you know this but there is a little movie called The Furious which is redefining martial arts action cinema. The film which is a “game changer in the genre” is currently available on Digital through Lionsgate but for those hardcore physical media enthusiasts, the film is looking to get a proper 4K Ultra HD/Blu-Ray release next month with all the bells and whistles so scroll below for your first look at the cover art, special features and more!
The Furious marks the feature directorial debut of acclaimed stunt choreographer Kenji Tanigaki (Snake Eyes, Rurouni Kenshin). Produced by Bill Kong (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), the film boasts an international cast including Xie Miao (The New Legend of Shaolin), Joe Taslim (Mortal Kombat), Brian Le (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), and more. It follows humble tradesman Wang Wei, whose daughter Rainy is abducted, thrusting him into a deadly underworld of corruption and violence. His only ally is Navin, a relentless journalist haunted by his own past; together, they fight through an international criminal network in a desperate bid to save Rainy and uncover the truth.
My review of the film is hailing it as not only the best action film of the year but possibly the best actioner in a decade. The movie, directed by action maestro Kenji Tanigaki, redefines how action design is presented on screen and the cast led by Xie Miao, Joe Taslim, Brian Le, Yayan Ruhian and deliver a brutal and bloody masterclass in how to eliminate your assailants with bone crunching precision. The Furious is the very definition of game changer. This is martial arts action cinema redefined for a whole new generation, and the insanely stacked and talented cast led by Xie Miao and Joe Taslim are all at the top of their games. Cast and crew all execute it all with master class precision and this movie does something that I have only experienced a few times in the past and that’s asking the question of “now what?” How do you do an encore? How does action cinema learn from what The Furious has to teach and offer? This film not only raises the bar, but it also shatters it into a million pieces.
The Furious is next level action from a team of Navy SEAL caliber action cinema talent that is unrivaled. This one not only lives up to the hype but it jump spinning hook kicks it into the wall with some of the most savage and visceral empty-handed martial combat ever captured on screen. The story is rich with heartfelt human emotion while at the same time brandishing some of the best and unrivaled blood spraying and bone shattering action design that will be nearly impossible to surpass in the future.
