When first announced, the sci-fi action thriller known simply as Warpath bore no mention to being a sequel to filmmaker Liam O’Donnell’s acclaimed Skyline franchise. We now have official confirmation that the movie is indeed the fourth movie in the alien series and Beyond Skyline star Iko Uwais is back and headlining the newest entry now titled Skyline: Warpath.
Announced just recently, Uwais is bringing some serious action cinema backup in the form of Scott Adkins who is having a very busy early 2024 with One More Shot opening this week and Lights Out debuting next month. This film marks a reunion for the two action greats who both appeared in Triple Threat together a few years back.
Deadline has just announced that XYZ FILMS has acquired all U.S. distribution rights for the movie and will release it early in 2025 so sorry folks, we have a little bit of a wait as the the project is still in production.
Along with the announcement, Deadline has also served up some tasty new first look stills of both Uwais and Adkins in action which you can view below along with the official synopsis!
Set within the ‘Skyline‘ universe and five years after the events of Beyond Skyline, the movie follows Sua (Uwais) as he leads The Resistance against the aliens. When he discovers the powerful alien Radial Gauntlet, he must deal with both the corrupt Eric (Adkins) and the army of alien invaders.
There’s no denying that Skyline: Warpath is already one of the most anticipated action films of 2025 with not one but two of the best the action genre has to offer. Couple that with the fact that Uwais and his signature stunt team are responsible for the action sequences and this one is a no brainer, sure fire hit. Louis Mandylor, Randall J. Bacon and Uwais’ longtime action collaborator Yayan Ruhain fill out the rest of the top billed cast.
“Since we first met Iko Uwais, Matthew Chausse and I have been pushing to make a star vehicle for him like Warpath. Pairing him with the truly versatile action legend Scott Adkins, along with XYZ films, the company that started things off for us, has been a dream come true,” Liam O’Donnell stated in the Deadline article.
Uwais is definitely one of the most underrated action stars today and unfortunately he has not been given the best roles here in the west so hopefully this one will finally see him get his dues. Adkins also deserves a hell of a lot more accolades as he’s one of the true great action stars working today taking up the mantle for icons like Stallone and Schwarzenegger.
I have to ask though what will transpire of the cliffhanger that resulted from the last movie Skylines which involved Frank Grillo who also starred in Beyond Skyline with Uwais. We’ll just have to wait and see what O’Donnell and company have up their sleeves for the future.
I am intrigued on exactly what the relationship is between Uwais’ Sua and Adkins’ Eric as the plot says that Eric is corrupt. However, the initial first look image definitely shows the two fighting side by side against a horde of attackers while the 2nd pic shows off the pair engaged in combat. Evidently, there’s much that happens throughout the course of the movie and I cannot wait.
