It looks like seeing the new Marvel Studios show Daredevil: Born Again will be far off into the future. Way, way off. Before the writer’s and actors’ strike, episodes were shot for the series but Marvel head Kevin Feige and company were extremely unhappy with the direction that the show was going. So much so that they are scrapping what has been done and initiating a massive creative reboot.
The report comes out of The Hollywood Reporter that the MCU’s upcoming Daredevil: Born Again is undergoing a “significant creative reboot” which has led to the firing of head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman in September 2023. The current series’ directors were terminated as well so the studio is now in a fast and furious search for a new creative team to restart the whole thing. Feige did say that they are keeping a few things from the episodes shot.
Apparently, the new show looked nothing like the Netflix series and more like a courtroom drama with star Charlie Cox not even putting on his Daredevil costume until episode four! Ouch. Yeah, I’m glad they knew something was a miss because that sounded like a whole lot of boring. Feige is promising to instill more action into the revamp so hopefully this will be for the better.
First announced in in May 2022, Daredevil: Born Again is part of Phase Five of the MCU. The first season will supposedly contain 18 episodes and Charlie Cox is back to play the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, Matt Murdock AKA Daredevil. Vincent D’Onofrio and Jon Bernthal also are back as Wilson Fisk AKA Kingpin and Frank Castle AKA Punisher, with Margarita Levieva, Michael Gandolfini, Sandrine Holt, and Nikki M. James also set to star.
Here’s hoping that with the reboot and promise of more action, Bernthal’s Punisher will even be more of a factor. The second season of the Netflix show was the best and a lot of it had to do with the chemistry between Cox and Bernthal. Fans are fearing that Disney will tone down Castle but I’m optimistic that he will be let loose as usual.
Vincent D’Onofrio made an official statement on X answering a fan about the reboot overhaul basically saying that this is all a part of the process.
“Every cool project I’ve been involved with has evolved constantly during pre- production, production and post.
It’s just reported on these days as if it’s big news.
It’s not.
It’s simple a bunch of creatives doing their best to get it right.
It’s a constant in this business.
I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Frankly I’d be worried if we were settling for less,” D’Onofrio stated.
It is said that both Ord and Corman are still attached to the event series as executive producers but my question is…how did this go on for so long until somebody noticed the train was off the tracks. It took the strike for Feige and crew to realize that this was not good enough. Also Ord and Corman were extremely out of touch if they were making this A Few Good Men instead of Daredevil. How could they of thought that this is what fans wanted? Only Feige and them know.
Unfortunately it looks like we have an even longer wait but it sounds like it’s for the better. Lock N Load for more Intel to come!
