This Friday is an official holiday. Sure, you’ll find nothing on your calendar and if you’re like me, you’ll probably be working but it still will be a time for celebration as the reigning king of action cinema, also known as Jason Statham, is set to unleash his lethal skill set when Shelter opens up in theaters. You can also call it a late Christmas present that line in the past, we keep getting from the action juggernaut . Call the holiday The Day of the Stath (copyright pending) or what you will but this Friday (or Thursday if you’re seeing it early like me) is definitely a bullet blasting, fist and feet ponding day of reckoning!
With the film hitting in a few days, Black Bear has revealed a brand new behind the scenes video which highlights director Ric Roman Waugh pumping up what we can expect and there is also a vast array of new posters to goggle at as all the premium theaters have launched their own one sheets for promotion. Check all of them out along with the video below!
On a remote coastal island, a reclusive man rescues a young girl from a deadly storm, drawing them both into danger. Forced out of isolation, he must confront his turbulent past while protecting her, sending them on a tense journey of survival and redemption.

Shelter is directed by Ric Roman Waugh (Greenland, Angel Has Fallen) and produced by Black Bear, Punch Palace Pictures, CineMachine, and Stampede Ventures. Producers are Jason Statham, Black Bear’s John Friedberg, Brendon Boyea, Greg Silverman, and Jon Berg. Executive producers are Black Bear’s Teddy Schwarzman, Michael Heimler, Andrew Golov, and Mike Shanks, as well as Ric Roman Waugh, Rachael Cole, Volodymyr Artemenko, Yevgen Stupka, Macdara Kelleher, Victor Hadida, Gideon Yu, and Elizabeth A. Bell. Shelter was written by Ward Parry.

I’m digging the premium theater posters as they ooze a graphic novel aesthetic and vibe. Makes me long for a comic starring Statham as a…wait for it…ex-special forces bad ass who’s living a now quiet and serene life until trouble comes knocking at his door. Oh yeah, that’s the plot of pretty much all of his movies but I’m in no way saying that’s a bad thing. I’ll take the same, generic synopsis of it features The Stath sending bad guys to their holy maker.
Statham stars alongside Underworld franchise legend Bill Nighy. Ward Perry penned the script and here’s hoping Statham can bounce back as many were not fans of the action star’s last film A Working Man. While not as fantastic as The Beekeeper, I still enjoyed watching Statham kick dubious amounts of ass even if the plot was convoluted.
Anyway, I’m such a fan of The Stath that he could do a musical and as long as he terminates with extreme prejudice, I’ll be there with popcorn in one hand and a soda in the other. This looks like Statham executing his own full throttle version of Home Alone so let the crescendo of violence commence!
