It’s officially happening! I know that they have confirmed that filming is rolling for John Wick co-creator Chad Stahelski’s long-awaited reboot for Highlander, but we now have visual confirmation! It happened today when star Henry Cavill himself revealed himself as the new generation immortal and he looks absolutely bad ass and on a mission. It’s certainly been a long and windy road to get here but it’s here and we can all breathe a sigh of relief and properly get pumped up for the film which I’m excited for because in Chad and Henry we trust. Scroll below to witness Cavill in all his centuries old glory!

If having Superman himself starring in the movie as Connor MacLeod isn’t grounds to plant your butts firmly in theater seats when it hits, then the banger of a supporting cast should tip you over the fence. Cavill will be going up against the beast as Dave Bautista will be playing his nemesis the Kurgan. MCU alum Karen Gillan stars as MacLeod’s eternal love Heather who unfortunately is mortal. Marisa Abela stars as an “immortal who is a teacher of swordplay” who just so happens to be one of Connor’s past loves as well. Hollywood royalty Russell Crowe graces the film as this version’s Ramirez, the mentor to MacLeod who introduces him to his immortal ways and prepares him to battle the Kurgan. Powerhouse actor Djimon Hounsou will play an immortal warrior from Africa while WWE superstar Drew McIntyre stars as Connor’s brother Angus. To sweeten the cast even more and make the action legit, international martial arts sensation Max Zhang (Ip Man 3) will also be in the film although his role is unclear but I’m sure Stahelski will utilize his skills to his upmost potential. Academ Award heavyweight Jeremy Irons will be “the leader of a secret order called The Watchers, who are keeping an eye on the immortals and see them as a threat to humanity.” Now that’s how you cast a movie ladies and gentlemen.
The plot is classified right now but of course the movie will tell the centuries old story of Connor MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod who navigates quietly through generations as he moves towards the gathering where the few that will remain will battle to the last.
The new movie will be based on the 1986 original, which starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown as immortal beings, hunting down one another and collecting more power. The time-jumping film — with its “There can be only one” tagline — spawned four sequels and three TV series including the popular USA series starring Adrian Paul. Queen memorably provided the soundtrack for the original movie. Per Deadline.
The road to filming has been plagued by constant setbacks after being in development hell for decades. Cavill even suffered a massive injury while training for the film which forced production to be delayed while he recovered.
“This has been quite the journey for me, which I’ll tell you all about when the time is right, but it’s a special moment to be able to share this. I hope you enjoy, “ Cavill stated in his social media posts when he shared the images of himself as Connor.
Hailing from Amazon MGM’s United Artists production banner, this iteration of Highlander has been trying to make it to the big screen since 2021. It will be fantastic to see Stahelski direct an action film that doesn’t contain John Wick as the filmmaker has essentially been doing that universe for over a decade.
Cavill is perfect for the role as he has the looks and fighting capabilities after starring on The Witcher for Netflix. Cavill flashed some very impressive fight choreography with empty hands and swords so this reboot just might be a shot of adrenaline the action genre needs after several flawed sequels. With Stahelski and his 87Eleven team at the helm, hardcore fans can expect some of the best sword action and martial arts combat to hit the screen in years. The images above cement that this film is essentially “John Wick with Swords” from the man who reinvigorated action cinema.
Whether you’re excited or not, you know you’re going to check it out when it finally hits. Given the talent involved in front of and behind the camera, this has the makings to honor the legacy of the Highlander franchise while forging its own path to action cinema greatness.
