I’m excited for Fede Alvarez’s upcoming Alien: Romulus. I wasn’t at first but then I saw images, a few teasers and star Cailee Spaeny rocking an earlier model of an M-41A Pulse Rifle which she unloads with in the newest railer you can see below so my anticipation is building. I must say though that even though I’m excited doesn’t mean I will be satisfied upon viewing but here’s hoping with fingers crossed. After all, I was excited for the new Road House with Gyllenhaal as well as Trigger Warning with Jessica Alba and we all know how those both turned out but, hey, third time’s the charm so let me say that I am the eternal optimist.
A new teaser image courtesy of the French movie magazine Cinema Teaser, who did an upcoming piece on the movie, has dropped a tasty new pic which showcases the inevitable confrontation between our final girl played by Spaeny and that nasty xenomorph. Scroll below to view the new promo pic below!

The original magazine cover was created by Illustrator and Designer Simon Delart but the wonderful peeps over at AVP Galaxy managed to remove all the writing from said cover and I must say that this image is striking and would look masterful on my wall. The AVP sight also mentioned how the above teaser image shadowed the one for Alien: Covenant which featured star Michael Fassbender. That movie was a massive misfire so hopefully that won’t be the case here. I also like how it pays homage to the iconic Alien 3 shot where the alien slowly moved up to Sigourney Weaver. That shot is also in the trailer with Spaeny being the unfortunate recipient of the up close and personal.
Here’s hoping that the finished film is just as good as the promotion that has been released thus far. The magazine will also feature an interview with both Alvarez and Spaeny and will be available for consumer purchase on July 3rd. Below is the original cover for the mag.

My excitement for Alien: Romulus is further fueled by the fact that Alvarez has teased that his installment is a wonderous blend of both Alien and Aliens. To hear Alvarez explain it, it seems that the film will slow build the horror elements with the xenomorph before erupting into full on Cameron mode in the last act. A blending of the only two worthwhile entire in the series. Yes please.
The director went on to explain his stance of how you get an alien fan to choose between both. Simple answer. You simply do both. “To ask an alien fan to choose between [Alien and Aliens] is a perverse question. So, I thought, ‘How do I do both?’” He then continued by saying, “There’s a moment where the characters are walking around areas familiar from the Nostromo. Then they cross through that building and on the other side: boom! You’re in a hallway that looks like Hadley’s Hope [from Aliens]. “
The synopsis for Alien: Romulus reads: The sci-fi/horror-thriller takes the phenomenally successful “Alien” franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.
Spaeny stars along with David Jonsson (Industry), Isabela Merced (Madame Web), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Spike Fearn (The Batman), and Aileen Wu (Away from Home). Spaeny is most likely the final girl of the film, like I said earlier, and here’s hoping Ripley’s can-do spirit enters her body so she can do battle with the iconic monster and represent for the human race.
Alien: Romulus will hopefully do its job and terrorize moviegoers when it hits theaters this summer on August 16th!
