Warner Bros. is not on my most liked list as of yesterday as the company announced, with just a little over two months till release mind you, that they have delayed the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat II until May of 2026. This comes after they excited fans with some awesome publicity highlighting Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage that included mock posters and trailers for films starring the washed-up martial arts action star. Why get fans all into a tizzy and then pull the blanket out from under them with only a few months left for the launch? The reason
The reasoning for the delay is simply that Warner Bros. feels that the sequel will perform better in its new slot which is May 15th. that’s almost seven months after its initial date of October 24th. The latter date did have a lot of traffic with several other movies including Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, Regretting You, Bugonia, and Last Days all hitting on that same date. I understand the why, but not how long but it is what it is.
But hey, Warner Bros. offered up a new poster as a way to say sorry to get us all excited for next summer! Yeah, I said the exact thing, but you can still check it out below while we now wait several months for what looked like a far superior follow-up to the original.

The latest synopsis courtesy of Deadline reads: In part two, the fan favorite champions—now joined by Johnny Cage himself—are pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earth realm and its defenders.
Along with Urban as Johnny Cage, Mortal Kombat II sees Hiroyuki Sanada returning as Scorpion as well as Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), and Ludi Lin (Liu Kang) along with Mechad Brooks as Jax. Joe Taslim (Sub-Zero), Lewis Tan (Cole Young). Other new cast additions include Tati Grabrielle (Jade), Desmond Chiam (King Jerrod), Ana Thu Nguyen (Queen Sindel), and Damon Herriman (Quan Chi). New additions include Adeline Rudolph as Princess Kitana and Martyn Ford. Tati Grabrielle (Jade), Desmond Chiam (King Jerrod), Ana Thu Nguyen (Queen Sindel), and Damon Herriman (Quan Chi) also round out the new cast members for the sequel.
Original franchise film director Simon McQuoid is returning to helm once again and plot details are being kept under lock and key for now. Jeremy Slater has penned the ambitious sequel and casting news is forthcoming. Slater is best known for writing the Disney Plus/Marvel Studios limited series event Moon Knight.
While we now wait longer for the new May 15th launch date, feel free to watch the radically rad red band trailer that hit a few weeks back when the film was still hitting in October. Can you say, flawed victory? I know I can.
