Upon reading the first issue of the R Rated G.I. Joe style action comic book Collision Force, I was immediately enthralled with the immersive and savage world of Lars Bowman and his elite band of equally savage black ops mercs and was intrigued to see where it went next. How would they top it? How would they keep the bombastic, retro action of the 80’s and 90’s alive with future issues? How would they create better and more impressive action set pieces with each and every turning of the page?
Well, I was able to get my hands on an early copy of Collision Force issue #2 and my fears were laid to rest when this world’s ultimate anti-hero operative Lars Bowman and his trusty coyote/dog hybrid Ripper repel from one chopper to another while enemy combatants release a salvo of lethal tracer rounds at them in midair. Yep! You heard that right. Our resident one-man army war machine literally grabs a rope in one hand and his trusty killer hybrid in the other and proceeds to assault the enemy Hind gunship with only his sheer brute force, elite tactical training, an animal that is more pissed off then he is and one hell of a hulking chainsaw. Don’t believe me? Check out the official panel images of the next issue from the book’s official Kickstarter page below!

You see? I would never lie to you. The best compliment I can give these three pages is that I need to see more ASAP and then I eventually need to see this done live action. There are action-oriented comic books and then there is Collision Force which kicks them in the mouth with a precision roundhouse kick and leaves them spitting out bloody remnants of broken teeth as they gurgle air pockets trying to retain their last breath of life. If you love action movies and if you love comic books, Collision Force is the perfect infusion of bombastic, brutal, visceral action on steroids that will leave your eyes bleeding for all the right reasons. Is that a good enough endorsement guys? Wait, I can do better!
First let’s give some history of Lars Bowman, his bruising team of elite operators, and his never-ending war with a savage and barbaric army of terrorists that make Cobra look like a band of boy scouts fishing in a pond on a quiet Sunday afternoon.
COLLISION FORCE, a team of elite soldiers formed in the aftermath of 9/11, ferreted out and eliminated any terrorist threats to the United States without hesitation or mercy. Lars Bowman led Collision Force with unrelenting patriotism, love for his teammates, and a seething hatred for any threats to American freedom. The team gained a legendary reputation through their resolute commitment to protecting America by any means necessary.
Following a catastrophic mission in the early 2010s that forced the team to go underground, Lars Bowman and Chi Diakese continued to fight terror in the shadows.
In issue #1, the team was pulled from retirement to face an enigmatic new threat bent on killing their leader, Lars Bowman.
Now, Collision Force is challenged by the THIRD PILLAR, a horde of Communist terrorists seeking vengeance against Lars and Chi for taking out their leader years ago.
OK, moving on…cue the retro synth action score!!!
Superheroes need not apply here as Collision Force is G.I. Joe without the sci-fi aspects leaving a grounded, visceral and pulsating world of bullets, beatdowns and bravado that is unmatched. Did you love when Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow assaulted Cobra Island by themselves and took out a horde of Cobra Troopers with only swords, unmatched skill and sheer determination that was unwavering. Well, Lars Bowman and his contingent of spec ops warriors respond with, “Well done boys…now hold our beers!”
Issue 2 of Collision Force is one hell of a follow up to the premiere and it revs up the blood, action and over the top carnage to another level. I won’t spoil anything of course, but I will say that the second issue multiplies the chainsaws, rocket launchers, bladed weaponry and ferocious firepower with Bowman cementing himself as a comic book anti-hero that is on the same level as The Punisher. Oh my, that gives me a great idea. Hey Marvel! Give these indie comic masterminds a bigger stage and team Lars up with Frank. There are no words created as to how awesome that would be.
This issue is a constant rapid-fire assault on the senses and literally never lets up until the final page and even then, you’ll be looking for the next page to see what chaos and mayhem comes next. It’s not all action as we also have some weighty drama with Bowman pulling a Barney Ross from Expendables 3 which doesn’t sit well with the rest of the team. There is more to come and the boys behind all this sheer madness need your help to get more missions told in the future.
Issue 2’s official Kickstarter is set to go LIVE really soon, and they need your help to reach enough backers when that happens. They are asking for our help from the fans. If they reach 100 backers at time of launch, Kickstarter will prioritize Collision Force them, so the campaign is more successful.
