Ladies and gentlemen. Boys and girls of all ages. Jim Caviezel is back black ops style baby! That’s right. The actor best known for a bevy of weighty roles in Hollywood including Jesus himself is dusting off his particular skill set for a pulsating new thriller that looks to revolutionize spec ops warfare for a new generation. Brandishing what he did in the hit CBS series Person of Interest, Caviezel is going tactical combat action bravado for his latest Ghost Soldier. If you watch this and don’t get a “hey this is an official live action Splinter Cell adaptation” vibe, then I can’t help you. Take it away Jim!
He’s not a threat, he’s a guarantee. Jim Caviezel defends the defenseless in GHOST SOLDIER – coming soon exclusively to movie theatres
In the action-thriller Ghost Soldier, Jim Caviezel stars as Henry “Fitz” Fitzgerald, a solitary man with a mysterious past, living a quiet life off the grid in his hometown. But when a powerful foreign corporation descends on his community determined to seize his and his neighbors’ land for a massive payday, Fitz takes action — he’s actually a former Special Forces soldier and advanced weapons developer. Armed with weapons no one has ever seen, a lifetime of lethal military training, and an unwavering code of justice, Fitz becomes the one thing his enemies never anticipated: a one-man war they can’t win.
William Eubank directs from a script penned by Chris Papasadero. Oivia Thirlby, Beau Knapp, Garret Dillahunt and Shea Whigham round out the cast.
TRAILER TACTICAL REACTION: Yep, Ghost Soldier is firmly in my wheelhouse and Caviezel looks combat ready as a loner who declares all-out war when greedy land developers look to force his neighbors off their land. Yeah, yeah, I know. Here’s another stranger with a past who just happens to be a former black ops bad ass and the enemy certainly picks the wrong fight with this don’t judge a book by its cover loner. What can I say that I can’t get enough of these types of actioners because they have villains who think they’re above the law and all that and they forget to do their homework to see who they are up against. Said hero then proceeds to make them look like complete amateurs while slicing a gauntlet of “you shouldn’t have messed with me or people that I love!”
Well, once again they’re up against a one-man war machine and watching this trailer gave me goosebumps because Caviezel is a polished actor who brings the bravado and gravitas to the one-man war trope. Watching this trailer definitely gives off Splinter Cell or Ghost Recon vibes and that shot of Caviezel coming out of the water with one hell of a hi-tech helmet on is a chef’s kiss and I got all kinds of tingly. Plus, he’s not only a former black ops killer, he’s also a weapons developer and he proceeds to unleash a bevy of next gen weaponry the likes that no one has seen on the fools that looks to elevate this thriller above others cut from the same cloth.
The tactical action looks bombastically sublime and yes, it’s rated PG-13 which will definitely turn some hardcore action fans off who need their films gory, but I’m on board. You don’t have to have severed body parts and blood spray littering the air to have solid, grounded and practical action design and I think Caviezel along with his character and cool as shit weapons will win people over at the end of the day. This just looks insane and fun. We shall see but Ghost Soldier just became one of my most anticipated action-thrillers for the rest of this year.
