James Bamford has carved a nice little notch in his years as a stuntman and having cut his teeth in that unsung industry, he transitioned to stunt coordinator and now director. Having helmed multiple episodes of The CW’s Arrowverse including Arrow, Batgirl and most recently Superman & Lois. Bamford is now taking his stunt knowledge to feature films having delivered some pretty solid adrenaline laced entertainment including one of my favorite sleepers of 2024 Air Force One Down and now Jade which has recently been released, the former stunt pro turned filmmaker looks to have a bright future when it comes to action design and creating films with bullets, explosions and bravado.
For his latest film High Ground, which sees a release next Tuesday, March 18th from Republic Pictures under Paramount Pictures, Bamford has tapped star Charlie Weber for a movie that sees a sheriff dealing with a mysterious new prisoner and the evil forces that want him back at any cost. After making a name for himself on the hit series How to Get Away with Murder, Weber is looking to carve his own path as an action star with solid turns in the military actioner Jarhead: The Siege which also starred Scott Adkins and with last year’s The Painter which made it on to my favorites list for 2024. Weber has the look, charisma and most importantly, the physicality for action cinema’s very demanding stunt play to showcase what he can do with the adrenaline laced genre. It’s also important to note that High Ground is Weber’s first foray into producing with the versatile actor looking to get more involved behind the camera as well as in front of it.
Check out the latest trailer and key art for High Ground below!
When a mysterious prisoner lands in his jail, a border town sheriff faces the wrath of a brutal cartel in this action-packed thriller starring Charlie Weber, Katherine McNamara, and Academy Award® winner Jon Voight.

Weber stars with a great cast that includes Katherine McNamara, who is making a name for herself in the action genre as well, and Henry Thomas who we all know from that little Steven Spielberg film that came out in 1982 about the lovable little alien. Hollywood icon and Oscar winning actor Jon Voight (Coming Home), who also starred along with Weber in The Painter, also stars and brings his welcomed gravitas as a grizzly old sheriff who aids Weber in his endeavors to protect his little piece of land from a ruthless cartel that will destroy anyone and anything to get the mysterious prisoner.
The trailer is filled with some pretty impressive action sequences as we get ample amounts of shootouts, car stunts and a modern western vibe that I certainly love. Weber is locked into his full-on action hero mode here and plays the reluctant protagonist thrust into an unbelievable situation to a tee. High Ground is Weber’s first foray into producing, which he did with his manager and producing partner Bernard Kira, with the versatile actor looking to get more involved behind the camera as well as in front of it.
