We have some major updates for Keanu Reeves’ long planned live adaptation of the graphic novel series BRZRKR he co-created and co-wrote. THR is reporting that Fast & Furious directing alum Justin Lin has enlisted to helm the film which will hit Netflix. Reeves is set to star in the film as well as produce marking the first time a creator of a comic book actually played the character on film. Lin is certainly a big name behind the camera so this will assuredly mean that the project will start gaining momentum.
For those not in the know, BRZRKR is a “brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000 year fight through the ages. The man known only as ‘B’ is half-mortal and half-god, cursed and compelled to violence, even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the earth for centuries, B may have finally found a refuge — working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B will be granted the one thing he desires — the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence … and how to end it.” Basically, it’s the rad merging of Highlander with Reeve’s iconic assassin John Wick so if you’re not on board for this, then I can’t help you.

Reeves co-created and co-wrote the popular comic franchise along with Matt Kindt which saw Ron Garney serving as illustrator. The first issue went on to become one of the best-selling comics in the last ten years when it sold well over 600,000 copies. The initial comic series ran for twelve issues and there have been several spinoffs and even a novel, titled The Book of Elsewhere, which saw Reeves co-writing with China Miéville.
Reeves was considering directing the film as well which will definitely be seen as a franchise starter for the streaming service as Netflix is always looking for the next great action project not named Extraction. It would appear that Reeves thought long and hard and came to the realization that directing would be too much so now Lin is on board with it. Now that Reeves is supposedly done with the John Wick films, aside from making cameos like in the upcoming Ballerina, so it makes sense that he would take BRZRKR, something he crafted from the ground up and run with it on film.
Lock N Load for more to come with Keanu Reeves and BRZRKR!
