I don’t know if you heard of this, but Jason Statham action movies have officially been grouped into their own subgenre. That’s right hardcore fans of all things adrenaline. Action movies with The Stath in them are no longer considered standard action fare. Oh no sir, they are now known as JASON STATHAM ACTION! If you don’t believe me then let me present defense exhibit A below for your viewing pleasure. Well-deserved I might add.
There’s no denying that I’m one of the biggest card carrying members of The Stath’s fan club and every time he has a new movie hitting it should be considered a national (or international) holiday. Yes, we all know the argument that Statham plays the same character in every film (not true BTW) but that character is nothing short of unapologetic, visceral, charismatic, larger than life and above all, kick ass. Statham is one of the true legit action stars on the planet and most important, he brings a throwback, old school kick ass vibe to his action hero status like the big names from the 80’s and 90’s when action cinema was truly its own religion.
With all that said, August 21st is set to be a national holiday as Lionsgate is poised and ready to unleash The Stath in what looks like his most brutal and savage role yet with the film Mutiny. Being hailed as “Die Hard on a ship,” Lionsgate is fully embracing that comparison and has even launched a new poster that pays the ultimate respect and homage to that classic Bruce Willis actioner. Scroll below for the reveal!

Starring alongside Statham are Annabelle Wallis, Roland Møller, and Jason Wong. Jean-François Richet, who helmed Plane with Gerard Butler and Mike Colter, directs from a script penned by Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis.

Mutiny serves up even more of what we want to see from The Stath. This latest teaser footage that hit a few weeks back is loaded with graphic execution and design as Statham’s character of Cole Reed deploys one man army aesthetics while oozing platinum levels of swagger and gravitas that only he can generate. He makes ample amounts of goons look inferior all the while going tactical with immense firepower, bladed weaponry and apocalyptic empty-hand carnage. Mutiny looks to have even more stabby, stabby and the blood will, without a doubt, flow like water. This is peek Statham and he literally is set to fill the run time carving his way through a gauntlet and unleashing his usual hyper kinetic mission of vengeance punctuated by hard hitting, visceral action sequences highlighting his particular skill set. There’s nobody better and with Statham well into his 50’s, he’s demonstrating that age is a state of mind and just a number. Just like the trailer announces, Statham is going to show everyone that he is the greatest! And that’s why Jason Statham action movies are now officially their own subgenre.
Take a peek at the latest trailer for Mutiny and discover why The Stath is second to none!
