Even though it would appear that Gerard Butler is done with the Has Fallen franchise (in front of the camera anyway) which he helped to create back in 2011, the action-thriller franchise is anything but DOA and with that a new season is set to go tactical and MI6’s deadly duo is back! The second season to Studiocanal’s bombastic television version of the blockbuster films is poised and ready to return fire this year and first season stars Tewfik Jallab and Ritu Arya are back in full battle gear as MI6 operatives Vincent and Zara respectively. Titled Apollo Has Fallen, our stalwart operators must rescue a very important person who holds the key that could destroy the free world. Along with our returning stars, the second season cast includes Jacek Koman, Richard Dormer, Charlotte Spencer, Arthur Darvill, Annabel Scholey and Aylin Tezel. Apollo Has Fallen was created and penned by writer/producer Howard Overman (Vexed, Merlin, Misfits, Atlantis, Crazyhead, Future Man, The One, War of the Worlds). The second season arc was helmed by David Caffrey and Alice Troughton. Julian Murphy serves as producer. Even though he is no longer doing the films himself, Gerard Butler serves as an executive producer per his G-BASE production banner along with Jeffrey Greenstein, Avi Lerner, Yariv Lerner, Jonathan Yunger, Oded Ruskin, Alan Siegel. HULU will release the junior season sometimne this year so stay tuned.
TRAILER TACTICAL REACTION: It’s no secret that Cinemax’s original action series Strike Back has always been my favorite action show on TV and the Has Fallen franchise is doing proper with continuing the same tactically bombastic action that the former did. The trailer for Apollo Has Fallen is locked ‘n’ loaded with plentiful sequences of combat battle action and globetrotting cinematography and even though this is a streaming series, it has the look and feel of a blockbuster action movie event, and it certainly rivals the movies that Butler did. Series stars Tewfik Jallab and Ritu Arya are great in the lead and serve up stellar chemistry and are all in when it comes to the ample carnage on display. The plot might be your standard terrorists trying to kill millions trope with something extremely lethal but it’s all about the action and the heroes and with that, this series delivers the bullet blasting goods. Can’t wait to see the new season and I’m going to go back and watch the first run in order to properly amp up my excitement and this trailer moves the needle all the way to high-octane for me.
