After massive misses and a few minor hits, Marvel’s first family is finally in the MCU as Marvel Studios has officially unveiled the inaugural trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Say what you will about Roger Corman’s infamous 1994 film that was never supposed to see the light of day or Tim Story’s decent two films (we won’t even talk about Josh Trank’s disastrous try), but it finally looks like Marvel has hit the target with this next incarnation. I’m sure there will be those trolls that complain and nitpick about every single frame of the trailer but color me excited as I’m digging the futuristic/retro 60’s look, the vibe and the cast that look all in. Watch the very first trailer for Marvel’s very first family below!
Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” introduces Marvel’s First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ben Grimm/The Thing as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.

It’s important to note that The Fantastic Four: First Steps will officially start Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Matt Shakman (WandaVision) directs this version from a script penned by Eric Pearson, Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer. You already know he cast but once again Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm, aka the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm, aka the Thing), and Julia Garner as the Shalla-Bal version of the Silver Surfer. Unfortunately, Marvel is keeping her top secret for now but I have to say, I’m not overly excited to see that interpretation of the character and do wish that they would stick to the original, but we do get a brief glimpse of the iconic Galactus, who is more affectionately called the Devourer of Worlds, at the end which is played Ralph Ineson.

The Thing certainly looks comic book accurate and here’s hoping he says the words we all want him to say. You know the ones. July 25th will be a big day as the MCU’s Phase Six will be off and rolling and after the disaster that was Phase Five (I still can’t get the singing aliens out of my head from The Marvels), I think Feige and company will right the ship. Let’s not forget that Daredevil: Born Again looks sensational and that hits next month to get us going. Only time will tell.

I love that Marvel has brought The F4 back to its original comic book aesthetic look as this is the perfect homage for it and it looks great in the screen. It’s also going to be interesting and fanboy exciting to see how they will implement the family into the MCU and its other characters and multidimensional storylines.
It’s Clobberin’ Time only in theaters this summer!!!
