On the heels of yesterday announcing that Star Wars alum Daisy Ridley was tacking up for a new military themed action pic called Dedication, we now have official word that Resident Evil star and resident bad ass Milla Jovovich is suiting up as well for a new thriller from Rambo: Last Blood helmer Adrian Grunberg called Protector which will borrow cues from Liam Neeson’s hit franchise Taken. Jovovich is certainly no stranger to doing the physical action design onscreen as she has appeared in multiple action flicks beside the blockbuster video game franchise.
In Protector, Jovovich plays “Nikki, a former war hero who believed she had left her violent past behind to raise her daughter, Chloe, in peace. When she wakes up in an abandoned factory and learns that Chloe has been kidnapped, Nikki must navigate the city’s criminal underworld, pursued by both the cops and the military, to get her daughter back.” Per THR
Production on Protector is set to commence this winter in New Mexico.
Besides the new film, Jovovich is staying ultra busy these days as she is also appearing in her husband Paul W.S. Anderson’s fantasy/action film In the Lost Lands which happens to be a George R. R. Martin adaptation. Jovovich will also star alongside Rosario Dawson and Alexandra Shipp with the action thriller Midnight. If thatv wasn’t enough, the actress will also be working with director Brad Anderson on not one but two flicks including the sci-fi film World Breaker and the immensely anticipated zombie movie Twilight of the Dead that is based on an idea by none oher than the late, great George A. Romero who basically invented the zombie subgenre of horror films.
Besides directing Stallone in the last Rambo pic, Grunberg has also served as director on such genre films as Get the Gringo with Mel Gibson, and the megalodon themed thriller The Black Demon. Rambo: Last Blood was definitely hit or miss with hardcore action fans of the franchise, but I was one who loved it, and it displayed the iconic warrior perfectly in his twilight years.
