In what has to be a second surprise renewal for the CBS action series S.W.A.T., the network has once again put the Shemar Moore led cop thriller into official renewal status with a surprising 8th season order. To make it even sweeter, the 8th season will consist of 22 episodes unlike the 13 that were ordered for what was supposed to be the 7th and final season. This is truly unprecedented as CBS also swooped in and resurrected the show for a 7th and supposed final season just days after cancelling it. Like the elite police officers in the series, the show will continue to stay liquid and keep its head on a swivel for yet another run!
Series star Shemar Moore took to social media to convey his outright excitement for the 8th season by saying, “S.W.A.T. IS BACK! BELIEVE IN MIRACLES! I am so proud of this show and the people and variables it has taken to make this show what it is and has become. I am so grateful to the fans around the world who have supported, watched, enjoyed and rooted for S.W.A.T.! It is entirely because of this support that S.W.A.T. will continue to shine! This is still a dream job for me … I love my S.W.A.T. crew, cast and writers and producers – we have made an incredible, fun, exciting, provocative and heartwarming show for the world to enjoy. Thank you to CBS and SONY for believing in S.W.A.T. and giving us this opportunity to shine!”

CBS added: “Here at CBS, we always ‘stay liquid’ and love a good dramatic twist, especially when it leads to an eighth season of S.W.A.T.! The show continues to resonate with viewers thanks to our talented cast led by Shemar Moore and our amazing writers and producers who keep the show relevant and action-packed. We’re very pleased to renew it again and incredibly grateful to our partners at SONY, CBS Studios, and Shemar for working so closely with us to bring it back for next season.”
The 7th and current season were wrapping up plotlines and unfortunately, we said goodbye to series regulars Alex Russell who played Street and Kenny Johnson who portrayed Luca. Both were fan favorites so Moore, Jay Harrington who plays Deacon, David Lim as Tan and Patrick St. Esprit who plays Commander Robert ‘Bob’ Hicks are the only ones left out of the original cast.
The series was, of course, a reboot of the original and classic S.W.A.T. series that ran in the 60’s but this one brought a modern flair to the proceedings with characters fans got invested in, dramatic plots that were tier one and sensational action that ignited CBS year after year. Where the 8th and last? season will go in terms of story is anyone’s guess but for now we celebrate, so stay liquid S.W.A.T. fans because the boys and gals are back! Now if Paramount+ and CBS can serve up another season order to SEAL Team, I’ll be a happy camper.
