OK, it’s been a hectic day of action intel here at Action-Flix and if you thought the R-rated and bloody live action TMNT: the Last Ronin was as good as it could get, well strap in and hold on tight! Along with the TMNT news, Paramount Pictures officially greenlit the highly anticipated G.I. Joe/Transformers crossover that was teased at the end of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts! To sweeten the announcement, Hollywood filmmaker and icon steven Spielberg is set to executive produce! Mind officially blown! Even with the tease at the end of the last Transformers flick, it was still up in the air whether America’s Greatest Heroes would actually team up with the Autobots and Decepticons. Plus, with the lackluster performance of Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins at the box office and the other two films underperforming as well, the Joes are on theatrical life support. Well, fear not fanboys and girls. it’s a go with Spielberg to boot!

The Joes and Transformers have met up multiple times throughout the years in the comic books, but this will be the very first and ambitious live action feature film teaming of Hasbro’s two biggest toy franchises. There is no director or cast announcements as of yet but joining Spielberg is producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto, and Don Murphy. Bay-Hem baby!!!
The plot for the first meeting is said to originate from one of the stories in the Marvel 1980’s era. Both G.I. Joe and Transformers have seen a resurgence in comic book form thanks to Skybound Entertainment who is rolling out new titles each month. Along with the new runs of G.I. Joe and Transformers, there is also the current Duke and Cobra Commander titles on the shelves a swell with Destro #1 set to hit the comic shelves on June 19th as well as Scarlett initiating her own run on June 5th. It really is a great time to be a fan of both and of comic books.

Now this crossover is very ambitious, and fans will surely be awaiting to see what characters from both IP’s that make it into the film. We will all have our fan favorites that we want to see but we can’t have all of them in one movie unfortunately. As long as Snake is present, I’ll be a happy camper. No doubt Duke will be involved, and it will be interesting to see what actors and actresses they get to play all the roles. Feel free to comment on who you want to see battle it out on the big screen.
