I haven’t done a lot of animated action here on the site and while I would, there really hasn’t been much call for it when all is said and done. Is Well Go USA’s newest CGI animated martial arts action-comedy The Kung Fu Kid worthy of mentioning and above all watching? Well, that remains to be seen but the new trailer does feature some eclectic animated action design so let’s roll out the footage for the latest version of The Karate Kid!
Get ready to witness the fight of a lifetime! A village boy travels to Shanghai, desperate to save his sick father and pay off medical debt. Recruited by a local Kung Fu gym, he enters “Shanghai Fight Night,” a brutal tournament packed with elite fighters and techniques from around the world. Embodying the fading tradition of Chinese martial arts, he embarks on a gripping tale of heritage, sacrifice, and the ultimate pursuit of victory.
Prepare for the fight of a lifetime! To save his sick father, a village boy enters an international martial arts tournament in the action-packed animated action-comedy THE KUNG FU KID, debuting on Digital August 11 from Well Go USA Entertainment. Witness a kung fu-fueled journey as the kid battles fighters and techniques from around the world in his pursuit of victory.
TRAILER TRACTICAL REACTION: If you ask me (and you should), I feel that the pinnacle of animated martial arts action has to go to Street Fighter: The Animated Movie as that offering has stood the test of time and still asks any new contenders to do it better. The world building, characters and most importantly of all. the action design was exciting and when I watch it to this day, I forget that it’s animated. Does The Kung Fu Kid look like it could dethrone the aforementioned classic? Not by a long shot and the tired plot of The Karate Kid has been done to death. We.ve seen this story a thousand times and most recently with The Karate Kid Legends which I despised but this could be fun, and the action and empty-handed fight choreography does look solid so this may warrant a watch. Will it have rewatchable sustainability? The dubbing in the footage isn’t cringey so that’s also a plus but I would prefer the actual language with subtitles. That’s a toss-up, but let’s give it a chance and see what it has to offer even though the trailer shows us pretty much the whole movie.
THE KUNG FU KID will land on Blu-ray™ and DVD exclusively through Amazon® on September 15!
