The first Greenland took the disaster epic theme for films and did something a little different with it. Instead of focusing on bombastic set pieces and over the top theatrics, it focused on human emotion, characters and delivered a true sense of dread that would accompany an annihilation level event. The premise of selecting certain individuals to survive because they warrant skills needed for survival afterwards is unthinkable and it begs the question as to who really deserves to live. It also starred Gerard Butler as John Garrity who crushes pretty much anything he was in. I’ve only seen the movie once to this point, but I will certainly revisit and now with the sequel ready to hit, it is time to finally take another watch.
I’m not going to lie as I forgot this sequel was happening as it’s been a minute, and I did feel that the original’s ending was enough but here we are and here’s hoping the follow up elevates the story even more. Title Greenland 2: Migration, Butler is back and this time he must navigate a dead earth when it comes time to find a more substantial means of survival.
