Ladies and gentlemen and hardcore fans of everything action, Diablo was just an appetizer. Make no mistake as I think that film which reunited Scott Adkins and Marko Zaror is in line to make my best of 2025 list but that was just a warmup for the main event. Debuting yesterday at day one of the SDCC, Scott introduced his latest in the form of a new trailer for the WWII martial arts action-thriller Prisoner of War which hails from fellow action star now director Louis Mandylor. What transpires in the two minute five second promo is Adkins delivering some of his most savage and brutal action design to date. Without further ado, scroll below for the trailer to Well Go USA’s Prisoner of War!
Starring martial arts icon Scott Adkins as British SAS officer James Wright, Prisoner of War tells the story of a soldier captured by the Japanese and held in a Philippine POW camp. Before the entire colony embarks upon the Bataan Death March, Wright and his fellow prisoners are forced to compete in brutal death matches for the entertainment of their captors. Adkins puts in a career best performance as the man who may be able to save them all.

Adkins stars along with Peter Shinkoda, Michael Copon, Gabbi Garcia, & Cowboy Cerrone with Mandylor directing with his signature style of stripped down, guerilla style filmmaking that radiates off the screen with sheer unflinchig results. Prisoner of War aims to throw it back to the day when it was all about the unarmed combat and the spectacular fight sequences with actors known for doing their own stunts and action design.

Initial reaction for the new trailer suggests that this film looks to go the route of Adkins’ previous action film Savage Dog with bloody and unflinching fight choreography. There is still a little flash and extreme movement, but it definitely aims to keep the action stripped down and barbaric as it’s essentially survival of the best. Adkins looks sensational as always deploying all of his signature skill set and even gets the opportunity to flash the sword skills too. A clear example of what talented people can do in front of and behind the camera and this would fittingly be called Adkins’ Bloodsport style fight pic albeit set in WWII.

It was also announced yesterday that Prisoner of War will make its premiere at the 2025 Big Bad Film Fest on August 22nd for those that will be able to attend the event. I will be covering the festival virtually and will definitely have this one on my radar to review so be on the lookout for my thoughts.
