It’s been almost five years. That’s right, Filming on the action film Havoc starring Tom Hardy wrapped filming around four years ago and action cinema faithful have been waiting ever since for the brutally promised final product. Director Gareth Evans, who officially became one of the genre’s best directors after helming The Raid franchise, took his time to let the film cook so it could be one of the best. It sounds like Evans’ slow burn process has paid off as the film is getting rave reviews from those that have been fortunate enough to see it already and with a new interview for Empire, Evans promises the goods will be delivered and that Hardy will be in beast mode.
It’s important to note that with The Raid films, the emphasis was on fast and brutal martial arts action tailored for its new breakout star Iko Uwais and company while Havoc will be a more down and dirty bruiser of a film to match Hardy’s physical attributes when it comes to dishing out cringe worthy action design that will rival what is seen in a horror film.
“It was never going to be a martial-arts film,” Evans told Empire. “I wanted this to feel like the gunplay stuff that I love watching… Tom came to us in f***ing beast mode. I tapped him on the shoulder and it was just like granite. He came fully physically prepared.“
Evans added, “He’s gonna cause as much carnage and as much mayhem as possible,” Evans promises. “He’s not grabbing your wrist and turning you into an arm lock. He’s grabbing you by the scruff of the neck and driving your face into the nearest heavy object.”
Sounds deliciously and savagely delightful and I will be there on opening day in front of my TV to watch all of this glorious carnage take place.
A new image of Hardy in said beast mode has also been released via Empire showing the hulking action star unloading with a shotgun. Check it out below!

If that wasn’t enough and for some reason some of you are still not on board for this one (SHAME. ON. YOU.) then partake in Evans describing on of the many action sequences that awaits.
“There’s a sequence in a fishing shack where it’s like an onslaught, a relentless attack,” the director teases, promising guns, hooks, and harpoons galore. “Every corner of this place someone’s going to pop up with a gun, someone’s going to pop up with a knife, and they’re going to come from under the floorboards, around the corners, through this window, through that window.”
I was sold when they said Tom Hardy and Gareth Evans nearly five years ago, but now my expectation meter is through the roof. Guns, harpoons and hooks oh my. April 25th, get here quickly please and thank you.
