I saw this coming and ever since they announced the release date for this June, I knew it wasn’t going to stick and I was right. Lionsgate announced yesterday that they are delaying the anticipated John Wick spin-off Ballerina which sees Ana de Armas entering the universe of Baba Yaga. The launch date was set for this summer on June 7th but now we will have to wait a full year to see oit as it will now hit on June 6th, 2025.
Deadline reported the delay and sated that it revolves around reshoots to “amp” up the film even better than it already is. Now before anyone panics, this is not a bad thing as the movie was already tracking well but the powers that be wanting to make it even better by bringing John Wick creator and director Chad Stahelski into the fold to work side by side with director Len Wiseman on “additional action sequences for the movie, to amp it up even more than it is.“ The film was already touting some worthy set pieces worthy of the franchise but they don’t want to take anything to chance and they want to implement even more gun fu into the mix. Stahelski was recently made overseer on the John Wick universe for Lionsgate, and this is his first gig to bring it all together.
Aramis stars as the titular character as a woman who transforms herself into an unstoppable killing machine to take vengeance on those who killed her family. Since this is in the same universe as Keanu Reeves’ hit films, several actors from those movies will make appearances in the movie. they include Ian McShane as Winston, who is the eclectic owner of the Continental Hotel, the late Lance Reddick as Charon in one of his last screen appearances as Winston’s right-hand man and concierge, and Anjelica Huston as the Director and the head of the Ruska Roma who made an appearance in John Wick: Chapter 2. Catalina Sandino Moreno, Gabriel Bryne, and The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus round out the rest of the cast.

With the news that we have to wait longer for Ballerina brings news that Lionsgate is going to plug The Crow remake into this year’s June 7th slot. This remake was essentially in development hell for years with constant stop-starts along the way but now the light is at the end of the tunnel as it will hit even sooner this summer.
Rupert Sanders helmed the movie with Bill Skarsgård taking the coveted role made famous by the late, great Brandon Lee in the original. The synopsis for the Crow reads: “Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.” Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila, and Jodran Bolger make up the rest of the supporting cast.
One thing is for certain, with the June 7th release, Lionsgate better start pumping up the advertising for The Crow as it is only just over three months until it hits theaters so expect more to follow!
