In the world of comic books, whether it be Marvel or DC, no one more than fans love a good crossover epic event. You know crossovers, that’s where a threat is so great that it crosses into various titles and involves anyone who is anyone out of the world of collective superheroes. I remember back in the 80’s when Marvel put out Secret Wars where all the who’s who of the comic line at that time was sucked into another realm to battle a threat from spilling over into the world they knew. That was a 12 issue limited series and nowadays, it pales in comparison to the ambitious crossovers that the largest comic line companies put out nowadays. This next crossover epic, announced last October, will even put Marvel’s Civil War to shame.
This summer sees Marvel Comics releasing their most ambitious and bloodiest crossover event in history with the launch of Blood Hunt where our mightiest heroes will do savage battle with an army of vampires looking to turn the world into a constant night of carnage. Do I have your attention now? I thought so. How ambitious is this crossover event? Well, when it is all said and done this May through July, it will consist of a staggering 59 issues including a limited Blood Hunt series consisting of 5 issues as well as one-shots, and the event spilling over into regular ongoing series that already fills comic bookstore shelves. With comics running at an average of 4.99 a pop these days, that’s a substantial investment and time spent on this one. Did I forget to tell you that the limited 5 issue series will run in a normal format and an even bloodier red band version featuring more graphic violence. Yep, there’s that too.

The official Blood Hunt limited series comes from writer Jed MacKay as well as X- Men artists Pepe Larraz and Marte Gracia. Below is an official poster for the Blood Hunt event which shows you visually all the titles that it will infect. A picture is worth a thousand words so peek at what to expect below!

Blood Hunt Official Synopsis: The skies have gone dark, the sun hiding its face from the carnage to come. The children of the night, the vampires, have risen from the dark and hidden places of the world as one to drown the Marvel Universe in blood. Earth’s final night has fallen—can even the heroes of this doomed world stem the tide of blood that is to come? Join the Avengers, Blade, Bloodline, Spider-Man, Hunter’s Moon, Tigra, Doctor Strange, and Clea as the dance of death begins.
The Blood Hunt event will also include Free Comic Book Day in May as a limited edition featuring the X-Men will be available for fans to grab for free, WOW! Talk about going all out. With a tagline of “Who Will Bite It?” as its attention grabber, I think fans are salivating as we speak. It’s really up to the fan him or herself to figure out if they want to invest on the whole thing or pick or choose what they want to read out of all that is offered. Obviously the 5 issue limited series is a must as well as the tie-ins but going into the ongoing regular series might be a stretch especially for those that can’t just go out and spend a small fortune on comics. Wouldn’t we all love to.

Personally, I’m excited beyond words to see the Day Walker himself Blade break into action and run a gauntlet of bloodsuckers. I’ve always loved the character and hey, if we have to wait another 10 years to see the MCU reboot film, we might as well watch him in action in the pages of this event. This is going to be all out thunderous to see our favorite heroes and anti-heroes go to war against one of the greatest evils of all time. Who will live and who will sacrifice themselves to make sure the world sees the sun another day? Suit up True Believers because it’s going to get real and real quick!
Anyway, you bite it (pardon the pun) this coming summer is going to be glorious for fans with Garth Ennis returning to the Punisher with Get Fury and now Blood Hunt! Stay tuned and stay nerdy everyone!
