Some have regarded Gerard Butler’s 2018 crime opus Den of Thieves as simply a poor man’s Heat but I couldn’t have disagreed more. Yes there are similarities to Butler’s bullet riddled epic to Michal Mann’s classic but I always considered the former a more rougher and tougher affair with a finale that suited action fans just fine.
After delays and more, the trailer for the follow up, titled Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, is finally upon us and with this entry, Butler’s anti-hero cop Big Nick is going global with more intrigue, roughhousing and, of course, bullet riddled set pieces and this one promises that the score is far from being settled. Scroll below to scratch your action itch!
Gerard Butler (Plane, Has Fallen series) and O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Out of Compton, Godzilla: King of the Monsters) return in the sequel to 2018’s action-heist hit Den of Thieves. In DEN OF THIEVES: PANTERA, Big Nick (Butler) is back on the hunt in Europe and closing in on Donnie (Jackson), who is embroiled in the treacherous and unpredictable world of diamond thieves and the infamous Panther mafia, as they plot a massive heist of the world’s largest diamond exchange.

O’Shea Jackson Jr. returns as well along with Christian Gudegast as director and writer. Gudegast also wrote and helmed the first flick so expect a nice if fierce continuation of the last movie. UFC champion Michael Bisping (Triple Threat) is also starring.
I always felt like the first film was like the bad seed of Heat and even though the finale never quite topped the latter, it came damn close. Heat will always be a master class in the genre of cops and robbers but Den made you feel dirty but in a good way. Butler’s Big Nick is a gloriously flawed protagonist who may be faltering in his personal life but when it comes to taking down perps, there’s no one better.

Butler is globetrotting this time around and dodging bullets going up against old and new adversaries in Europe. The movie has been gestating for a few years ever since it was announced with the pandemic and strikes slowing things down but the finish line is now firmly in sight.
