Never has a motion picture been more maligned before its release in recent memory then director Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman), reimagining of The Crow. The Brandon Lee version is so beloved that any attempts after having met with disaster, it doesn’t help that the sequels were terrible, but I am holding out for hope that this new version starring It and Boy Kills World star Bill Skarsgard finally delivers on another vision of James O’Barr’s iconic graphic novel. Don’t get me started on the ex-writer who turned malicious and said he had seen it, and the movie was terrible. I have a whole other article about that you can read. The movie is almost upon us and with it, we have some new key art to show off which I do like. Scroll below to view.

I’m still not a fan of Skarsgard’s overall look (especially the hair) but hopefully the footage I saw in the trailer and the movie as a whole will win me over. Is the movie bad? I think this will be a clear example of the eye of the beholder as some will praise it while others will condemn it. At the end of the day, it’s my opinion that only counts to me and you know I’ll back it up with details in my review on whether I love it or despise it.
Remember, this is not a REMAKE people and the Eric in this film is not the original Eric Draven from the novels and Lee’s film as Sanders has stated. I loved Skarsgard’s performance in Boy Kills World and the movie as a whole and I thought he sold the action design and put the work in for the stunts, so I am a little excited to see what he does in this film. I did love the ultra-violence in the first trailer, especially Eric pulling the sword out of him and thus using it on henchmen.
The movie hits on August 23rd so it is then when we will know what we officially think of this rendition of The Crow. I do feel that this IP is not known as well as other comic books so it will always have an uphill battle to win over audiences but if this one is respectful to the source material as Sanders says it is then maybe this one will do some business. I’m not betting on it through, and I feel that the movie will hit streaming shortly after its release similar to Kevin Costner’s Horizon. I do think The Crow is best suited for streaming then the big screen and if this franchise is to have any kind of success, then that will and should be the road that they take. Time will answer all questions…
