THE DELTA FORCE, Chuck Norris, 1986, (c) Cannon/courtesy Everett Collection
I’ve been rather busy lately and because of said life getting in the way like it always does, I’ve been rather lax in announcing home video releases. With that being corrected post haste, Chuck Norris is hot again (but really was he ever not?) with his Agent Recon hitting at the end of the month which is his first acting gig since The Expendables 2 (no, I don’t count his 2 minute cameo on Hawaii 5-O either) so with that, Shout!Factory is poised and ready to unleash what is arguably my favorite Norris pic with the release of The Delta Force on 4K Ultra HD! That’s right, rev up the machine gun/missile firing motorcycles and dune buggies and cue up Alan Silvesti’s mega iconic synth score as the world’s most elite combat unit is getting the 4K treatment! Oh, it’s a Blu-ay combo pack to boot. Check out the details below! “Sleep tight sucker!”

This was Cannon films’ most epic actioner from the 80’s with Norris leading an all-star cast including the late, great Lee Marvin in his last role as well as a host of old school, old Hollywood celebs including Martin Balsam (12 Angry Men), Joey Bishop (Ocean’s 11), Kim Delaney (NYPD Blue), Lainie Kazan (My Big Fat Greek Wedding), George Kennedy (The Dirty Dozen), Bo Svenson (The Inglorious Bastards), and the one and only Robert Vaughn (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) delivering a cameo as well as Shelley Winters (The Poseidon Adventure). Let’s not forget that Cannon mainstays Steve James (The American Ninja franchise) and William Wallace (Avenging Force) also star as members of the unit along with the late, great Robert Forster who is almost unrecognizable as the head terrorist Abdul. Golan and Globus went all out with this one with Menahem Golan even taking the director’s chair on this one besides his usual producing duties.
The plot is rather simple as Norris and Marvin breakout the black uniforms and jock up when a commercial flight full of innocent passengers is ruthlessly hijacked by terrorists. What culminates is the probably the best last hour of a movie as the elite Delta boys reign down hell with their supped-up vehicles and fans get massive firefights, some unique, intense human drama and a little martial arts action courtesy of Norris himself.
I love pretty much all of Norris’ films with Lone Wolf McQuade being my second behind The Delta Force as that was the very first movie, I saw of his but there is something about The Delta Force that just makes me smile every time I watch it and I’ve watched it a lot. The Delta Force is epic in all facets and the music score is fist pumping to the extreme. Plus, I was 13 when the film came out and was already a mega fan of Megaforce so they had me with the rocket firing vehicles.
Unfortunately, the special features are light on this one for this is for only serious collectors and Norris fans (LIKE ME!). The specs are below:

It’s really sad that they didn’t at least include the special features that came with the Scorpion release. That one included archival interviews with Robert Forster and Alain Jakubowicz as well as a new interview with screenwriter James Bruner.
