Color me intrigued. I stated again just the other day on the site and my Action Fix Podcast that I was all in for director Fede Álvarez’s upcoming Alien: Romulus. Initially, I wasn’t thrilled when the concept was revealed but the initial teaser trailer and promise of combining the original Alien with Aliens has piqued my interest for this new installment of the blockbuster franchise. It also helps that final girl Cailee Spaeney has been seen in a couple of images rocking an earlier version of the M-41A Pulse Rifle. She’s basically channeling the great Ellen Ripley played to chef’s kiss perfection by Sigourney Weaver in the earlier four films so here’s hoping she can fill Weaver’s shoes when the shit hits the fan.
Adding fuel to my fire is defense exhibit B as a new and extended trailer has been unleashed amongst the masses with even more glorious sequences of the chaos that awaits us when the film hits in August. Throw in a deliciously deadly new poster showcasing one unlikely crew member besieged by a Facehugger and I am all in for the wild ride that this one is promising. Check out the glorious carnage in the new trailer below and prepare to scream even though it won’t matter because, you know, you’re in space and no one can just drive to you and help you out.
The sci-fi/horror-thriller takes the phenomenally successful “Alien” franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.

Spaeny stars along with David Jonsson (Industry), Isabela Merced (Madame Web), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Spike Fearn (The Batman), and Aileen Wu (Away from Home). Spaeny is most likely the final girl of the film, like I said earlier, and here’s hoping Ripley’s can-do spirit enters her body so she can do battle with the iconic monster and represent for the human race. Spaeny certainly looks solid in the role and from what I saw of her in Civil War, she’s got the acting chops so let’s see her wage a little war on xenomorphs. I, for one, cannot wait to see how this one blends the two and seeing the cast rock some M-41A Pulse rifles like its 1986 all over again is worth the price of admission alone.

Alien: Romulus looks to pay homage to the original Ridley Scott classic Alien with the look and feel of this being a slasher pic with a Xenomorph as the prime antagonist but now we know that there will be Cameron style action to boot with Alvarez promsing a merger of the first two films. We also do know that the timeline for this installment rests between Alien and Aliens but there will be no connection to any other films of the franchise. looks like the ultra-updated looking pulse rifle is the only returning character from previous entries. I still wish we got a full-on sequel to James Cameron’s Aliens with Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn reprising their roles of Ellen Ripley and Dwayne Hicks respectively, but this is looking promising although it’s only a minute, but you know me, I’m a fan of back in the day when there weren’t twenty trailers for one movie that gave everything away before it even opened. I’d be fine if this was the only teaser we got but you know that’s not gonna happen. It definitely looks more fan friendly then Scott’s last two films Promethius and Alien: Covenant. The addition of the bad ass weaponry from Aliens is a nice touch and here’s hoping it gets used a lot like in the second war film of the franchise. After all, Riley didn’t have any automatic firepower in the first one, so things are looking a little better for Spaeny.
