Lionsgate Finally Gives THE EXPENDABLES 4 a Release Date

“They’ll die when they’re dead.” It’s just going to take longer unfortunately. I guess you can file this under a classic example of good news/bad news in that Lionsgate has finally put us out of our misery and has given a definite release date to the fourth and highly anticipated next installment in The Expendables franchise. I say this because even though we now know when it will hit, we have a much longer wait for it then I ever thought we would.

I had anticipated that The Expendables 4 would hit in the first quarter of 2023 and that’s after it was technically supposed to drop this year. Unfortunately, Lionsgate didn’t agree with me and won’t launch the fourth entry until September 22nd of next year. That’s right faithful. Just like what they did to us with John Wick 4, they have now done with Barney Ross and his compadres as we have to literally wait almost another year for the film to finally make it into theaters.

John Wick 4 was supposed to drop in May of this year but the powers that be over there thought we needed to wait much longer and has now settled for a March 2023 date. The Expendables 4 never officially had a date but it’s essentially the same thing.

To go along with the announcement, Lionsgate has given us a little more info on what to expect and when I say little, I mean the smallest of little. Read for yourself below:

The fourth Expendables will add to the near $804M global grossing franchise. The new adventure sees the return of Sylvester Stallone plus 50 Cent and Megan Fox join the mercenary team which also includes Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and. Randy Couture. Tony Jaa, Iko Iwais, Jacob Scipio, Levy Tran, and Andy Garcia also star. Armed with every weapon they can get their hands on and the skills to use them, The Expendables are the world’s last line of defense and the team that gets called when all other options are off the table. But new team members with new styles and tactics are going to give “new blood” a whole new meaning. Scott Waugh directs off Spenser Cohen and Max Adams’ script. Producers are Kevin King-Templeton, Les Weldon, and Yariv Lerner. Expendables 4 dates itself against an untitled Warner Bros DC movie on Sept. 22.

See what I mean? Aside from the whole new members, new styles thing we still know next to nothing. We do know that they will be going up against international action sensation Iko Uwais this time around and he and star Jason Statham, who is taking over for Sly, will have one hell of a tussle before the end credits roll. Let’s just hope it’ll earn a hopeful R rating and return to form for the franchise.

Now we wait. We wait for any footage and we wait for any more images and we wait for any more word on what the hell the actual story will be. We will also be waiting longer to see what happens to Ross and just how the torch is passed to The Stath.

Keep it locked and loaded right here and stay tuned….after all, we have plenty of time…(Sigh)
