The Descent and Dog Soldiers director Neil Marshal is returning to go roots as his latest film The Lair is taken from the sane mold of his directorial debut…the aforementioned Dog Soldiers. A group of soldiers are about to go up against something inhuman. The Lair is said to radiate shades of that movie only on a bigger budget and the mayhem amped up to 10. Check out the newly released trailer and key art which shows off that something definitely wicked this way comes.
Marshall described the film to EW who brought us the above teaser and below key art and said:
“It’s about a bunch of soldiers and a downed pilot in Afghanistan who stumble upon an old Russian black site and unleash some scientific experiment that’s been lurking there for quite a while,” says the British filmmaker. “And all hell breaks loose.”
The film stars Charlotte Kirk, Jamie Bamber and Jonathan Howard. Marshall is a true maestro of the genre and this movie looks to perfectly blend blood dripping horror and high-octane action into one shiny package. I’m all in to say the least. I’m also a fan of Marshall’s Doomsday which is a bone rattling dystopian actioner so this one is on the top of my must see list

Marshall came up with the initial idea for the Afghanistan war set picture when the pandemic hit. When plans fell through to shoot a low budget film in the desert near L.A. when COVID struck fell through, Marshall then cane up with this backup to do instead.
Marshall also describes the film as a true “festival crowd-pleaser, a big gory action spectacular” and judging from our first look…he succeeded. The film premiered at London’s FrightFest this past August and the movie was a hit with the crowd in attendance.
This one has been on my radar since production so it’ll be great to finally see the finished product.
The Lair will officially be released by RLJE Films in theaters, VOD and Digital platforms just in time for Halloween on October 28th. The movie will also launch on Shudder sometime in early 2023.
