Dolph Lundgren is action cinema royalty. Ever since he became a household name as the nefarious Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, Lundgren has spent several decades delivering high octane excitement to his legions and legions of fans. From the Expendables franchise to earlier retro hits like Red Scorpion, The Punisher and countless others, Lundgren is action legit. Top it all off, Lundgren has basically been battling cancer in his personal life and still continued to work while receiving treatment and surgeries to help battle the disease to which he did beat in true action hero fashion.
Fans of Lundgren also know the actor as the OG He-Man in Cannon Films’ 1987 big screen adaptation of Masters of the Universe which sadly was a box office dud but has since gone on to receive legendary cult movie status and is beloved to this day. The film was a tongue in cheek battle royale of action, sci-fi and fantasy and even though it took liberties with the source IP, it still was a huge hit with diehard fans everywhere.

Lundgren has been on the promotion circuit to help advertise his new documentary titled Dolph: Unbreakable which is a candid expose into his life and career. In the film, Dolph recalls all the personal high and lows of both his life including his battle with cancer as well as his several decades long film career which has culminated into the icon becoming a full on force of action cinema.
During an interview on Extra, Lundgren promoted the new documentary but also said some interesting things when asked if he was indeed in the new Masters of the Universe film which stars Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man/Prince Adam and Jared Leto as Skeletor. Lundgren’s response, which can be seen towards the end of the video below was coy, but it pretty much cemented the fact that fans will seem him in a mysterious role. It would only be fitting to include Lundgren in the movie in some way as he is the most recognizable face of the live action iteration of MOTU.
“Maybe, yeah, you’ll have to check it out when it comes out,” Lundgren responded to the question. Check out the Extra interview below!
At one time, Lundgren championed to star in the new reboot as King Randor but the role has since been filled by veteran character actor James Purefoy. So the question remains as to what role if any Lundgren has in the new film but I’m sure whatever it is, fans will love to see him in that universe once again.
Bumblebee director Travis Knight was tasked with the gargantuan task of bringing the latest live action version of He-Man to the big screen. The film follows “ten-year-old Prince Adam, who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe.”

Galitzine and Leto star along with Camila Mendes (Riverdale) as Teela, Idris Elba (Luther) as Man-at-Arms (who is also known as Duncan), GLOW’s Alison Brie as Skeletor’s second-in-command Evil-Lyn, Morena Baccarin (Deadpool & Wolverine) as The Sorceress, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (Captain America: Brave New World) as Malcolm (a.k.a. Fisto), Sam C. Wilson (Dodger) as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson (Game of Thrones) as Goat Man, Kojo Attah (The Beekeeper) as Tri-Klops, and James Purefoy (A Knight’s Tale) and Charlotte Riley (Peaky Blinders) who are playing He-Man’s parents, King Randor and Queen Marlena.
Masters of the Universe is set to hit theaters on June 5th of next year!
