Many have said that some of action icon Scott Adkins’ best work had been with veteran stuntman turned action maestro filmmaker Jesse V. Johnson. From such crowd pleasers as The Debt Collector films to Avengement which is heralded as one of Adkins best acting performances, the duo have proven that when they unite, great thing happen for action aficionados.
Well, it’s time to get excited as Adkins and Johnson are set to unite once again for the new crime thriller Irish Dog. The movie has already sold to many international markets ahead of its projected fall shoot and we have the official synopsis for you via Deadline!
Action vet and martial artist Adkins, who has recently starred in The Rip and John Wick Chapter 4, will star as Martin, “a London nightclub bouncer who reluctantly agrees to accompany an old friend on a trip to Spain. What begins as a chance to escape the routine of his everyday life quickly spirals into a dangerous gathering of powerful criminals, old enemies, and unresolved loyalties. Far from the streets of London and under the sun of the Spanish coast, Martin finds himself pulled back toward a violent world he has fought desperately to leave behind.”
The film has been acquired for German-speaking Europe by Tiberius Film, Eastern Europe by MediaSquad, MENA territories by Front Row Filmed Entertainment, Italy by Plaion Pictures, and India and SAARC territories by Dimension Pictures. Italy’s Iuvit Media Sales brokered the deals out of the Cannes market.
Expect more territories to follow suit as well as North America and this is certainly great news for Adkins’ legion of fans who wait for his next adrenaline fused output.
With Irish Dog, fans can expect the same welcoming gritty, stripped down, in your force, blunt force trauma vibe that the two have delivered in the past. Johnson is known for his unflinching and aggressive films that show off top tier violent action design to coincide with the even heavier emotional moments. Aside from directing, Johnson is also penning the script which will see the film have a Q3 release date next year.
Adkins never slows down and recently celebrated his 50th birthday and has a bevy of projects up and coming. These include, the much anticipated Skyline:Warpath which teams him again with action sensation Iko Uwais. Adkins will also star with fellow action star Lewis Tan for two films including Deadlocked and Brawler with the latter marking Adkins’ directorial debut.
