I have to say that Prime Video is really giving other streaming services a run for their money with the action series as of late with solid hits like Reacher and now Countdown which I’m currently enjoying. It looks like you can add Daniel Dae Kim to the list as the former Hawaii 5-O star is headlining a rather impressive project called Butterfly which looks to infuse traditional family themes with blistering spy action. Kim plays a former agent thought long dead who resurfaces and joins forces with his equally bad ass daughter who has taken up the family business. Check out the newest footage and poster below!
“Butterfly” is a character-driven spy thriller that explores complex family dynamics within the treacherous world of global espionage. It’s centered on David Jung (Kim), an enigmatic, highly unpredictable former US intelligence operative living in South Korea, whose life is blown to pieces when the consequences of an impossible decision from his past come back to haunt him, and he finds himself pursued by Rebecca (Hardesty), a deadly, sociopathic young agent assigned to kill him, and Caddis, the sinister spy organization she works for.

One important note to mention is that Kitao Sakurai helms the first two episodes of the show. Sakurai has been making news lately as he is the director that will bring the newest Street Fighter reboot to the big screen. The series takes its cues from the BOOM! Studios‘graphic novel series of the same name which was created by Arash Amel.
The supporting cast behind Kim includes Reina Hardesty (It’s What’s Inside), Piper Perabo (Covert Affairs, Yellowstone, Billions), and Louis Landau (Rivals). The series cast also has a fabulous Korean flavor to it with Kim Ji-hoon, Park Hae-soo, Kim Tae-hee, Charles Parnell, Sean Dulake, Nayoon Kim, Sung Dong-il, and Lee Il-hwa srarring as well.
Ken Woodruff (The Mentalist, Gotham) is at the helm as showrunner, and he co-created the new Prime Video series along with acclaimed novelist Steph Cha. Butterfly is filled with intrigue, suspense, espionage and bullet infused action with Kim taking aim and the lead here. With the series being a live action adaptation of the popular 2015 graphic novel from Amel, fans can look forward to exhilarating set pieces worthy of a big budget blockbuster.
