If the current state of the world is leaving you a little down and you are hankering for the good old days when action cinema was king at the box office, then I have the ultimate short film for you in Rambo vs Johnny Cage. That’s right, the world’s most iconic Green Beret and the bad boy of martial arts action films are going toe to toe with bone snapping results to see who the ultimate champion is!
The short film is a labor of love for action and martial arts stars Ron Smoorenburg (Triple Threat, Bangkok Dog) and Stefan Chapovskiy (War Gene) who both play the iconic action staples. Chapovsliy also directs with Smoorenburg developing the action design which includes a blunt force exchange with Eskrima Sticks along with empty handed martial combat for retro devastating results. This is nothing but a fun and brutal throwback to the old era when Stalone, Schwarzenegger and Norris ruled the theaters so if you’re always feeling a little nostalgic like me, then by all means pop this film on your YouTube feed or check it out embedded below!
On Facebook, Chapovskiy stated, “our international film crew pay tribute to the 80’s-90’s iconic action/fighting movies, like Rambo, Rocky, Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Mortal Kombat and many others.” Smoorenburg shared the message and video with me earlier and I am extremely thankful for them considering me in helping get this action short out to the masses. Check Out some stills from the video in the gallery below!

Both action stars are adamant about bringing the retro flavor back to action cinema and this is the first shot in what will hopefully be more short films coming in the future. I would even take a feature length flick with the two as well. From the Rambo feeling score to the perfectly shot fight between the two, this is a definite must see for all hardcore action fanatics.
The seven minute plus short is reminiscent to the opening of Sly’s Rambo III where he takes on the late, great Harold Diamond in a no holds barred match in Thailand where they execute some hard-hitting choreography complete with sticks. Both Chapovskiy and Smoorenburg have created a solid and fierce homage that honors that film and all those that were popular in the 80’s and 90’s and are the reason that we worship in the cathedral of action cinema.
Lock N Load right here for more to come!
