Here’s one 2025 film offering that I am intrigued about, and it features some pretty substantial genre star power in Dave Bautista and Milla Jovovich who must contend with a scorched earth in the new bombastic spectacle In the Lost Lands. Helmed by Jovovich’s significant other and resident Resident Evil helmer Paul W.S. Anderson, the film rocks a pretty rad aesthetic which bases the plot on a short story by Game of Thrones scribe George R.R. Martin.
New key art and subsequent trailer have been released for fan consumption so check out the bad assery in motion as Jovovich and Bautista take turns looking fantastic as they engage in all-out war! Add in the fact that you can tie this one to Martin who is a household name after the successful HBO fantasy series based off his books, and this one might have a chance at the box office.
Official Synopsis: A queen who is desperate to fulfill her love, so she hires a powerful sorceress named Gray Alys (Jovovich) and sends her to the ghostly wilderness of the Lost Lands, where Alys and her guide, the drifter Boyce (Bautista), must outwit and outfight man and demon.

It is quite refreshing that in today’s world, especially in Hollywood, Jovovich and Anderson have continued to thrive in the marriage department along with constantly working with each other and Anderson sure does love making his muse look dynamite and deadly onscreen. She basically can do this kind or role in her sleep and that’s a compliment of the highest order. Bautista, after starring in 2024’s disappoint The Killer’s Game will hopefully redeem himself here and I’m hopeful and still a massive fan even after watching the aforementioned bummer.
Anderson also penned the screenplay along with Constantin Werner. Anderson is, of course, best regarded for directing the first six live-action Resident Evil films which starred Jovovich, but he does have an extensive filmography that features the original Mortal Kombat (1995), the infamous Event Horizon (1997), Soldier with Kurt Russel which holds a special place in my heart, the first Alien vs. Predator, Death Race (2008) starring action icon Jason Statham, The Three Musketeers (2011) with Jovovich, the easily forgettable Pompeii (2014), and 2020’s Monster Hunter which again starred Jovovich alongside action and martial arts star Tony Jaa. Anderson certainly has his fair share of hits and misses but I feel the hits outweigh the misses.
Alongside the mentioned demons, the movie also looks to explore “the nature of good and evil as well as love and loss.” It can explore all it wants just as long as it delivers in the carnage department and our two leads who have proven their mettle throughout the years are given enough to do when it comes to decimating the enemy with bombastic action design that hopefully isn’t covered up by sus editing. I’m digging the post-apocalyptic/western infusion vibe going on here and Bautista always delivers even if the rest of the movie does not. He definitely is channeling the man with no name gusto here so, by all means, take it away and run with it.
Producer credits for this one go to Anderson and Jovovich along with Bautista and his partner Jonathan Meisner via their Dream Bros Entertainment production banner. Jeremy Bolt and Constantin Werner also produce.
