For better or for worse, the reimagining of The Crow from director Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) and starring Bill Skarsgård is one of August’s highly anticipated movies. Whether it defies expectations or sinks into oblivion under the maligned fanfare even before it comes out remains to be seen but Lionsgate has just shared a new clip from the film which features Skarsgård’s Eric (not Draven) going for one hell of a ride which results in him getting thrown from an SVU and doing some emergency repairs on a broken leg. Check out the bloody action in the new footage that was released at the ongoing 2024 SDCC below along with a graphic novel inspired new poster that was handed out to the fans in attendance.
Say what you will but I liked the clip and loved that Lionsgate chose an action sequence for us to sink our teeth into. It’s certainly not the highlight of the movie but it’s enough to warrant interest towards the positive. Plus, it shows off more of the graphic violence in store for viewers when the film hits next months. It does seem to infuse a lot of style, goth and dread which is what the graphic novels inspire so thumbs up so far from me.
Official Synopsis: Synopsis: Bill Skarsgård takes on the iconic role of THE CROW in this modern reimagining of the original graphic novel by James O’Barr.
Soulmates Eric (Skarsgård) and Shelly (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.

Skarsgard stars along with singer FKA twigs, who now plays the role of Shelly, and who we all know is the love of Eric’s life. The always game Danny Huston (Yellowstone) plays the film’s heavy. David Bowles (Brothers), Isabella Wei (1899), Laura Birn (A Walk Among the Tombstones), Sami Bouajila (The Bouncer), and Jordan Bolger (Peaky Blinders) round out the rest of the cast.
The movie hits on August 23rd so it is then when we will know what we officially think of this rendition of The Crow. I do feel that this IP is not known as well as other comic books so it will always have an uphill battle to win over audiences but if this one is respectful to the source material as Sanders says it is then maybe this one will do some business. I’m not betting on it through, and I feel that the movie will hit streaming shortly after its release similar to Kevin Costner’s Horizon. I do think The Crow is best suited for streaming then the big screen and if this franchise is to have any kind of success, then that will and should be the road that they take. Lock N Load and stay tuned…
