After the backlash of the last Hellboy film, which is no fault of star David Harbour who acted the hell out of the role, we are getting yet another live action film of the famed graphic novel demon hunter. This time, the film is called Hellboy: The Crooked Man and it sees Jack Kesy stepping into the role and boy does he have big shoes to fill with Ron Pearlman and the aforementioned Mr. Harbour doing justice to the character. This one looks to ramp up the horror vibe so check out the new trailer and see what Kesy is doing with his chance to play Hellboy!
From renowned director, writer & producer Brian Taylor (Crank, Happy!) comes Hellboy: The Crooked Man , a film about survival in the face of death. In the 1950s, Rookie BPRD agent Bobbie Jo Song is tasked with delivering a spider to the BPRD, but must seek Hellboy’s help when things go awry. Together, they travel to Appalachia to take on the Crooked Man, who has been sent back to Earth to collect souls for the devil. Hellboy: The Crooked Man is written by original Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden, and distributed in the US by Ketchup Entertainment. The film stars Jack Kesy as Hellboy, Adeline Rudolph as Bobbie Jo Song, and Jefferson White as Tom Ferrel. Other cast includes Leah McNamara as Effie Kolb, Joseph Marcell as Reverend Watts, Hannah Margetson as Cora Fisher, and Martin Bassindale as The Crooked Man.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man was made by some pretty solid individuals as Crank co-helmer Brian Taylor directs from a script penned by none other than Hellboy comic book creator Mike Mignola and Chris Golden. The cast includes Jefferson White, Adeline Rudolph, Joseph Marcell, Leah McNamara, Hannah Margetson, and Martin Bassindale.
Kesy is certainly an intriguing pick to now play Hellboy as he is lesser known than the two that came before him. He is a solid actor with his biggest roles coming in 12 Strong and The Outpost. Judging from the trailer, he’s going for a more leaner and meaner approach of the character. I’m in.
I’ve never been much of a Hellboy fanatic, but I have enjoyed the live action films even Harbour’s take on it which was panned by critics and fans alike when released. How will this one be received? I feel that it won’t make much a dent with hardcore fans, but I think it looks interesting and macabre. It definitely looks more stripped down and dirty which suits me fine and I’m interested to see what Crank helmer Brian Taylor brings to the franchise as his style is chaotic and visual. Maybe this one will stick with fans and warrant more films. Time will tell.
No release date has been set but keep an eye out!
