My daughters do enjoy the films that Awkwafina does and so do I as I am able to watch a lot of them with my girls. The comedian and actress does do a lot of voice work, but she also hits the target more times than not in her live action efforts. Teaming her up with John Cena seems like a no brainer and that’s what Amazon MGM Studios has done for their latest Prime Video exclusive which is the action-comedy Jackpot which sees the former wrestler turned Hollywood big shot Cena brandishing his particular skill set in order to protect Awkwafina who has come into a substantial amount of moolah. Hijinks, chaos and some action design ensue with hilarious results so scroll below for the first look footage!
In the near future, a ‘Grand Lottery’ has been newly established in California – the catch: kill the winner before sundown to legally claim their multi-billion dollar jackpot,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “When Katie Kim moves to Los Angeles, she mistakenly finds herself with the winning ticket. Desperate to survive the hordes of jackpot hunters, she reluctantly joins forces with amateur lottery protection agent Noel Cassidy who will do everything in his power to get her to sundown in exchange for a piece of her prize. However, Noel must face off with his slick rival Louis Lewis, who also seeks to collect Katie’s commission at all costs.

Cena and Awkwafina star along with Shang-Chi’s Simu Liu which also starred the comedic actress. Here Liu stars as a competitor for Cena who has nefarious means in mind. Ayden Mayeri, Donald Elise Watkins, Sam Asghari, and Murray Hill as Paul Feig helms from a script penned by Rob Yescombe. Cena also executive produced the project along with Michelle Morrissey, Rob Yescombe, and Zack Roth with Feig, Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum, and Laura Fischer producing.

I was one of the few that enjoyed Hidden Stike with Cena and Jackie Chan as I thought their chemistry and some solid action especially in the finale was worth it. Cena and Awkwafina seem to be having a good time as well here and the set pieces look serviceable for fans looking for viewing choices on a Saturday night. You could probably do worse and I’m sure this one will get bashed but myself and my lovely ladies will certainly be checking it out on our movie night.
