After nearly a decade in development hell, the latest incarnation of The Crow based off the ever popular underground comic by James O’Barr, is finally going to see light as it will hit theaters this summer on June 7th. After a host of directors and stars including Jasom Momoa jumped ship, director Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) and star Bill Skarsgard finally took up the mantle to bring the newest story of undying love and vengeance that sees no boundaries including death to the big screen.
Hopefully Skarsgard and Sanders will deliver a unique and new take on the story while respecting the Brandon Lee classic at the same time. We finally have official first look images courtesy of Vanity Fair of Skarsgard fully suited up as Eric Draven as well as his co-star FKA Twigs. Scroll below for a first look!!!

The official synopsis for this newest attempt to bring the famed graphic novel to life reads: Eric and Shelly are brutally murdered when the demons of Shelly’s past (in the form of a deliciously insinuating Danny Huston) catch up with them. Caught in a limbo state between the living and the dead, Eric sets out to avenge their deaths, walking the gossamer-fine line between the natural world and the supernatural one.
The rest of the cast includes X-Men alum Danny Huston who was recently seen in Yellowstone, and he portrays the main antagonist of the movie. Isabella Wei (1899), Laura Birn (A Walk Among the Tombstones), Sami Bouajila (The Bouncer), and Jordan Bolger (Peaky Blinders) round out the cast.
Vanity Fair, as part of the image reveal, spoke with Sanders about working on this reimagining of The Crow as well as the legacy that Brandon Lee left behind with the original:
“It’s definitely something that we’ve always had in mind through the making of the film. Brandon was an original voice and I think he will always be synonymous with The Crow and I hope he’s proud of what we’ve done and how we’ve brought the story back again. His soul is very much alive in this film. There’s a real fragility and beauty to his version of the Crow, and I think Bill feels like he is a successor to that.“
Sanders also gave a sneak peek at what fans of the source material as well as newcomers can expect from his vision.
“ It was opportunity to make a dark romance, something that dealt with loss, grief, and the ethereal veil between life and death and reaching through that. Look, I grew up listening to Joy Division and The Cure, and this movie is a bit like a Cure song—the beauty of melancholy.“
There’s no denying that Skarsgard has the dramatic chops and judging from his skills in the trailer for Boy Kills World which hits theaters in April ahead of The Crow, he will excel at the adrenaline set pieces as well. Coming from someone who has adored the Brandon Lee version, I’m intrigued to see how this one fairs as I have hated each and every sequel that came after. The TV series with Mark Dacascos had a DTV fun feel to it but that was about it.
The Crow hits cinemas on June 7th from Lionsgate! Expect a trailer to drop any day now!
