Action and martial arts icon Scott Adkins took to his official Patreon account to announce that principal photography had officially wrapped on his upcoming MMA beatdown thriller and directorial debut Brawler. Adkins had taken to a live Caged Steel Event recently in Doncaster to shoot some sequences for the film and released an official shot of himself celebrating a victory. Posting the pic and intel on July 5th, Adkins also stated,
| “Yesterday was the last day of shooting on Brawler as I did pick up shots for the young version of my character Warren James fighting in an MMA championship and becoming the world middleweight champion. We shot this at the Doncaster Dome at Caged Steel Event. The movie is looking great.” |
Adkins made waves a few months ago when he announced that he was officially making his directorial debut with Brawler and was also starring in the film. It was also made public that fellow martial arts action star and Mortal Kombat alum Lewis Tan was also starring in the film and that the two will have one epic throwdown in the film.
The movie does need a plot and while it won’t reinvent the genre, it still delivers and will focus on signature Adkins action as well as some deep emotional drama. The synopsis reads, “a disgraced MMA champion is pulled into a violent underworld by the sins of his past, armed only with his fists, he must fight hitmen, criminal gangs, and his own inner demons, to protect those he loves.”
Brawler also stars a solid supporting cast including Larry Lamb (The Hatton Garden Job) and Emily Bennett. Matt Venne (Dexter: Resurrection) penned the script so there is legit cred going into this one and Adkins has surrounded himself with all-stars in front of and behind the camera to elevate his directorial debut. Fellow martial arts action stars Lee Charles and Mark Strange also feature in the film so there is some serious fight experience to be had.
Fans need not to fear as longtime Adkins collaborator and elite martial arts action director Tim Man is handling the beatdowns for this one. Man has been a force in the action genre for years now and has delivered some of the best fight sequences ever caught on film. Expect nothing but the best of the best when it comes time to watch Adkins and all involved do their thing with fierce efficiency and brutal power.
Adkins had hinted at making the move to director as well in our past interviews so I knew that it was just a matter of time before he showcased what he could do with all the experience he has acquired as one of action cinema’s elite performers. Adkins and Tan will also take each other on again with Deadlocked which is a courtroom-based action pic where Adkins is set to play the heavy to Tan’s heroic, disgraced cop looking for a little redemption. Collin Armstrong penned the script which sees Film Mode Entertainment, Vault Entertainment, Rebel Entertainment and In Tandem Productions attached to the project.
Per Deadline, “The plot is based around a routine jury site visit that turns deadly when a mercenary kill team led by Hewitt (Adkins) storms the location in search of a secret ledger detailing citywide corruption. Trapped inside, a disgraced ex-cop-turned-bailiff (Tan) must protect the surviving jurors and battle the attackers outside while exposing a traitor within.”
