From her standout role in director Neil Marshall’s Doomsday to recurring roles on elite action TV series like The Last Ship and Strike Back, genre star Rhona Mitra is certainly action royalty to her legion of fans. Mitra exemplifies the looks, attitude, onscreen charisma and sex appeal and above all bad ass theatrics in many of her films and she’s back doing what she does best as she takes on Famke Janssen in the new action-thriller The Experiment. Director Chee Keong Cheung (Redcon-1, Son of the Soil) is back at the helm of another slice of adrenaline pumping chaos, and we have the new trailer for you below!
In the year 2080, in a world recovering from catastrophic nuclear war, an elite Spec-Ops team is sent on a rescue mission into a top-secret military research facility after a rogue employee takes a group of scientists hostage.
Mitra headlines along with X-Men alum Famke Janssen who is in full on villain duties here, Stefanie Martini, Razaaq Adoti (who also stars in Cheung’s Son of the Soil), and Roxanne McKee. Cheung, one of genre cinema’s prolific filmmakers directs from a script written by the trio of Alistair Cave, Matthew Thomas Edwards and Oliver Morran.
TRAILER TACTICAL REACTION: The Experiment infuses the vibes of Mitra’s Doomsday with Resident Evil for an eclectic blend of blistering sci-fi thrills, savage horror and pulsating tactical action. One can even make the argument that the film is channeling a little of Die Hard and The Raid with its single locale story implementing a building that is its own weapon with elite soldiers battling an unknown threat. The film looks bloodthirsty with blistering tactical action cemented with fever dream, nightmare fuel that will check all the boxes with blood dripping scares spliced with battle hardened action design. Mitra looks in command per usual and when it comes to femme fatale, anti-hero worthiness, no one does it better while looking good at the same time running and gunning. The Experiment looks savagely violent and any film that manages to drop in werewolves into the narrative always gets props in my book. Looking forward to what bombastic thrills this one has to offer.
