In action cinema, most notably the martial arts subgenre, there have always been the mainstay countries that have led the way in onscreen unarmed combat. there is, of course, Hong Kong which was the pinnacle of it all in the 80’s and 90’s and most recently Indonesia has dropped its hat into the ring with the like of the Raid and superstar Iko Uwais. Don’t forget about Thailand and, yes, America is there too although my homeland has usually played it safe with the material.
One country that intends to be missed is Germany and I’m here to throw some love on the country when it comes to electrifying fisticuffs and bone jarring action set pieces. German import Mike Moller (Expendables 4) has quietly made himself a fan favorite in the genre with turns in indie fair like Arena of the Street Fight Fighter and One Million K(l)icks. The man is a veritable dynamo of martial arts prowess and can basically throw his body into any gravity defying situation and make it look like anyone should be able to do it.
Well, make way for Emilio Sakraya who, with his starring role in the new Netflix flick Sixty Minutes, just might make himself a household name with fans with this movie that showcases him doing all kinds of the physical stuff. Sakraya stars as Octavio Bergmann who has quite the dilemma as he only has, you guessed it, sixty minutes to make it to a meeting or his soon to be ex is going to take his daughter away from him for good. Throw in the fact that he is scheduled to fight at the same exact time and criminals do not want him to miss it, Bergmann is going to have to utilize all of his skills plus his bravado and street savvy to take on all the bad guys and win his daughter back before time is up.
Check out the blistering trailer below!
The trailer is chock full of hyper paced fight sequences and Sakraya has quite the team behind him to help him on his endeavors and win the day. There’s a unique combination of street laced MMA choreography mixed with some rad extreme hijinks so this one looks like it’ll do the job when it hits Netflix on January 19th. It’s a custody battle of epic proportions with a little criminal underground war to boot so make sure to check this one out when it hits the streaming service.
