WONDER WOMAN ‘84 Set to Launch in Theaters and HBOMAX the Same Day!

In another unprecedented move due to COVID, we finally have our answer to what will happen to Wonder Woman ‘84 as it was announced yesterday that Warner Bros. Is officially going to release the sequel in theaters on December 25th but with a catch… the Gal Gadot led comic book flick is also going to premiere on HBO Max the same day! That’s right, audiences can watch the film in cinemas or choose to view it in the comfort of their homes if they want. That is if they have a subscription of course.

Director Patty Jenkins made the announcement via Twitter staring “Watch it in theaters, where it is made safe to do so (check out the great work theaters have done to make it so!) And available safety in your home on HBO Max where it is not. Happy holidays to all of you. We hope you enjoy our film as much as we did making it.” Check out the tweet below!

WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar also made a statement on the move that ends a hectic several months where the movie kept getting pushed back.

“Our belief in the theatrical experience and, to that end, the importance of exhibitors; Our mission to be strong and supportive partners to Patty, Gal, producer Chuck Roven and the entire Wonder Woman 1984 team; And finally, the fans, which is where important decisions like this should always start and should always end.

We believe this decision will bring several benefits. The first and most important benefit is to the fans in the form of unprecedented choice from day one. The second benefit is to the exhibitors, providing an eagerly anticipated movie at a much-needed time while they take precautions in their operations. Finally, we believe that our creative partners and ourselves will benefit from this decision, in the form of fan response both theatrically and via HBO Max in the U.S.

Wonder Woman ‘84 will find Diane Prince AKA Wonder Woman squaring off against two foes in Max Lord (Pedro Pascal) and The Cheetah (Kristen Wiig). Chris Pine also returns as love interest Steve Trevor.

So it looks like we’ll get one more blockbuster in theaters this year so cinema chains are surely happy with the news. Check out the latest trailer that dropped at DC FANDOME to refresh your memory!
