Boy oh boy. AI is one of the most controversial and hottest topics these days and personally I think we should have all paid a little more attention to what James Cameron was warning us about in Terminator. Sure, it’s all fun and games right now because guys can have an artificial girlfriend who will do whatever they want but then you wake up one day to discover that it has become self-aware and is now bombing the world with nukes. OK, it probably won’t get to that point…or will it?
I digress though and for now let us just chat about Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi actioner starring the one and only Jennifer Lopez who stars as earth’s last hope when AI runs amok. Yep, it’s Jenny from the block and she’s the last line of defense when Shang-Chi’s Simu Liu’s AI character wages war on humans. So, what’s a girl to do to fight this insurmountable threat? Well…team up with AI that’s what. Oh, sure it doesn’t help that she doesn’t trust AI. Probably because there is an army of AI soldiers blitzkrieging nations but what the hell, there’s nothing left to lose. Oh yeah, there’s a new trailer out as well. Let’s watch!
Official Synopsis: Atlas Shepherd (Jennifer Lopez), a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence, joins a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. But when plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it.
From director Brad Peyton, Lopez stars along with Liu as well as Sterling K. Brown and Mark Strong. If you ever wanted to see Lopez, take on machines while strapped into something that looks like it came out of the 80’s sci-fi guilty pleasure flick Robot Jox then this is the film for you. What follows is massive amounts of CGI infused carnage and mayhem that looks like it’s more animated than live action. Oh, of course, I’ll still watch it because it has Lopez looking good strapped into a machine that looks like it came from the aforementioned Robot Jox. What’s not to love?
Atlas blasts onto Netflix on May 24th so Happy Memorial Day everyone!
