Jessica Alba is certainly no stranger to action. The Hollywood star has been seen in many projects with an adrenaline tinge to them including the FOX series Dark Angel which was her first real success in acting. Alba spent two seasons kicking ass on that short lived sci-fi series but has gone on to star in Sin City as well as the Bad Boys spin-off show L.A.’s Finest. With her impressive list of action credentials, Alba has never really made a true hand to hand combat affair but that’s all changed with Netflix’s upcoming military themed actioner Trigger Warning which sees Alba going full on war machine against a gang threatening her hometown when she returns from active duty to investigate the mysterious death of her father. It’s a good thing that she’s military equipped and well trained because she’s going to need all of her particular skill set to survive this one.
Netflix has unveiled some first look images from Trigger Warning which will see a June 21st launch date on the streamer and fans will look to get their fill with Alba jocking up and running and gunning through her enemy gauntlet. Scroll below for the first look peeks!
The official synopsis for Trigger Warning reads: Special Forces commando Parker (Jessica Alba) is on active duty overseas when she gets called back to her hometown with the tragic news that her father has suddenly died. Now the owner of the family bar, Parker reconnects with her former boyfriend turned sheriff Jesse (Mark Webber), his hot-tempered brother Elvis (Jake Weary), and their powerful father Senator Swann (Anthony Michael Hall) as she looks to understand what actually happened to her dad.
Parker’s search for answers quickly goes south, and she soon finds herself at odds with a violent gang running rampant in her hometown. Unsure of who she can truly trust, Parker draws on her commando training and proves herself a force to be reckoned with as she hunts down the truth and attempts to right what has gone wrong in Swann County, with the help of her covert ops partner and hacker Spider (Tone Bell) and connected local dealer Mike (Gabriel Basso).
Alba also served as an executive producer on the film which was helmed by Mouly Surya from a script penned by John Brancato, Josh Olson, and Halley Gross. Additional cast members include Mark Webber, Tone Bell, Jake Weary, Gabriel Basso, and Anthony Michael Hall with Kaiwi Lyman and Hari Dhillon.
“I haven’t really done hand-to-hand combat and intense action in such a long time,” Alba told Netflix’s Tudum. “For me, “I really wanted it to be a more intimate kind of fighting experience if I needed to take somebody out.”
For the role, Alba really wanted to make her character of Parker a true bad ass and she worked with the stunt team to incorporate Indonesian knife fighting action design for the movie’s numerous set pieces. This also goes along with the fact that Parker is an expert in heavy weaponry as well so expect a mixture of firepower and fisticuffs for the running time. The action sequences will feature fast movement and even faster thinking from Alba to sell it for the viewers.
Director Mouly Surya also spoke about the film saying, “I think one of the things that attracted me is there’s loss in this film. And I really connected with that grief of losing… my father a few years before.”
Alba added about implementing a real loss she suffered during production. “My grandfather passed away in the process of developing this movie. I drew from a lot of that personal experience when I was doing the movie just because it literally just happened, and I got to actually use a lot of my family’s photos in the scenes in the bar. It’s a family story, after all.”
Expect a trailer with Alba showcasing her Indonesian knife fighting prowess to drop soon and expect Trigger Warning to drop on Netflix this summer on June 21st!
