Looking for some homage style action to pique your interest this weekend? Well, look no further as Level 33 Entertainment is bearing down on the insane speed levels for the new action Speed Train. Boasting a solid genre cast including Nicky Whelan, Scout Taylor-Compton, Oliver Masucci and the one and only Louis Mandylor, this one looks like a cult classic waiting in the wings. Check out the trailer and poster for the flick which certainly takes its cues from Brad Pitt’s Bullet Train but in the most fantastic indie action cinema way possible.
In a distant future where tech reigns supreme, a disgraced tech genius hijacks a bullet train and uses the brain-chipped passengers as weapons. As chaos erupts, rebels, cheerleaders, and an FBI agent must battle AI threats and mercenaries alike. With time running out, they fight not only for survival, but to reclaim their freedom from a world slipping into digital control.

Any chance that we can see femme fatales like Nicky Whelan and Scout Taylor-Compton kick insane amounts ass is always a draw and Mandylor looks to having a little fun in the villain department. The action is close quarters type, and it looks pretty solid and brutal. 87Eleven would definitely be proud of the effort put in here. Veto Swarn serves as fight director with Jakkrit Kanokpodjananon handling the stunt coordination. Nowadays, indie action is having fun and while the budgets and filming time may not be there all the time, some of these films make up for it in the important ways. Speed Train looks fun and will make a phenomenal time waster over the holiday season for serious fans looking for more titles to add to their watch list.
Ryan Francis helms from a script he also co-wrote with Judah Ray from a story by James Cullen Bressack (who I have interviewed a few times) and Robert Thompson. Other cast members include Oliver Masucci, Jade Patteri, Liana Ramirez, Karmel Bortoleti, Mike Manning and Francis himself. Veteran martial arts action staple Ron Smoorenburg also make an appearance as a ruthless prisoner looking to kill some bystanders. I’m pretty sure that indie filmmaker Brandon Slagle also gets in on the fun on camera this time.
